    Same principles apply?

Thanks for the suggestions. Knabe, I watched the video. We have been using that technique too however maybe where we go wrong is just working and working the cow to lead instead of just walking her from one place to another. Going to give a couple things a try today. It snowed here last night...

    What am I missing here????

The judge did rely on EPD's but he also made specific comments regarding the genetics of the cow. From what I could tell he had a program with the class list exactly like what was provided to the contestants and audience.

    Same principles apply?

Did crappy in the Jr show. Placed third out of six in the open show. Happy with that, it was a hard class and the sire is our bull. Sorry I missed you. I was hoping to catch up with a few people.

    Same principles apply?

Not to be snotty but I'm asking for help and suggestions not criticism. When she pulls loose I don't let her just get away with it. I go get her and try again. I have to figure it out, don't have a lot of options with having someone bigger around to help.

    Same principles apply?

Just came in from trying to halter break a heifer. She weighs about 500-550 pds. I only weigh about 120. She just kicked my butt!!! Are there different tactics for someone who doesn't weigh a lot to try and halter break a heifer? I stuck with her even though she pulled loose from me a few times...

    What am I missing here????

Shoot, sorry I missed you. Did everyone end up meeting? The only one I ended up connecting with was Cade from MYT Farms. Great kid! Anyone going to be around for the Prospect show this coming weekend? We'll be back. Thanks for the compliment! I think I'm getting too old to deal with white cows...

    What am I missing here????

Showed our bred heifer in the open show yesterday. There were two judges. The one judge that spoke after placing the animals said that both judges sat and studied the classes and EPD's etc before the show carefully. Our class was one that they particularly spent a lot of time on. They switched...

    What am I missing here????

He didn't even make mention about the cow's structure that placed higher. Just some basic comments and definitely said something about the genetics. And yes, he blatantly pulled the class line up book out of his back pocket and openly walked up and down the cows looking at the book in both of...

    What am I missing here????

I know we don't go all over the country to show and I am probably totally naive about this but we were in the Junior PACE Shorthorn show today. The judge pulled the class line up book out on both classes we were in and walked up and down the line glancing at the cow and then at the book. Is this...

    old shoe

This topic keeps resurfacing. I think it's been hashed over every single angle now over and over again. The Sullivan's are great people who run an amazing outfit. I don't know one person who wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Unfortunately we would all have to win the lottery to get there. This...

    White Shorthorn Bulls

Haven't been on here in a while, daughter got married, so much to do. I don't know if you are opposed to anything in the Sin City bloodline but we have had much success with our pb white shorthorn bull Tommy Boy. He's Sin City and KaBa Legend. Makes amazing calves and lots of blue roans. Great...

Help with unwanted birds in the chicken coop

The coop was built inside of a chain link fence area so the dogs and cats can't get in and the chickens can't get out. I think my dogs would try and kill the chickens anyway. The sparrows have found the inside of the coop to be very hospitable, warm and cozy. I open the door to the 6 x 8 coop...

Help with unwanted birds in the chicken coop

Ugh! We have these very unwanted sparrows in our chicken coop. They take over and eat all the food and water. It's like a scene out of the Bird's movie. I've kicked them out, put up netting but they still get through. I even hung a fake owl in there but all it did was scare the chickens. The...

Does anyone ever need a January born show steer?

We have a really nice PB all white shorthorn steer that is a full brother to our bull RR Tommy Boy. He is really nice but getting very big. Not sure we can keep him at a reasonable weight till our county fair in August. I was just wondering if anyone has earlier fairs and looks for January born...

    SNOW?!?!

We live on the Palmer Divide in Colorado and got about 2 1/2 feet. Four foot plus drifts. Warm today and it's melting like crazy. Have one crazy cow still out in pasture that we can't get loaded in the trailer for anything!!! Ugh, checked her today and her calf has dropped and she is stringing.
