    Char cows and color

We use Charolais on Braunvieh bulls occasionally and you get a nearly white calf with dark skin and hooves, never had a rat tail and sometimes get a smoky. Here's a picture.

    Calving in the cold weather

Brent, haven't tried the panty hose but a rancher around here takes regular old table salt and pours it on the calves ears. Apparently the salt really makes the cow lick those ears and keep them warmed up. Haven't tried but sounds like it may work.

    Taking Donor Pictures

Another item to consider is your background. Some people have built a "picture pen" that has a beautiful background in it that is not distracting. Not all of us have that option but think about your background is all I am saying. I will attach a couple pictures I really like...in the one you can...

Where do you get Mix 30? Through a local co-op or from a dealer?

    trying to get started

I think early on it is very expensive and hard as some are saying because of the start up costs....it takes alot of time and money finding/buying good seedstock and time to see them prove themselves. If you are not used to AIing or doing ET work, that is a learning process in its own. It is a...

NC: "At least someone enjoys the Snow! Corgie Picture!

Tony, Do you still have that orange floral couch in the picture with Grady??  That looks like a classic from my youth years. We have a corgi too, they are fun to watch "leap" to around in the snow....and no snow balls in the legs, that doesn't look fun to deal with.

who's showing at Denver and hating this weather??

I don't have an indoor washrack or a heated barn so I am hating this weather. Since Dec 6, we have only had 5 days above freezing. We leave Monday and have 4 head to get ready, I washed 2 when it was 22 degrees out on Monday.  Just wondering if anyone else is not ready because of this weather.

    Picturing Cattle

I wouldn't know what to charge but I think it would depend on how much you have to do. Will the bulls be on the halter and posed for the shots or out in the open? Will you be provided help to get the bulls to stand correctly? I would think the more work the photographer has to do to take the...

    Just another Monday

Sorry to hear about your day. No one ever wants to have that kind of luck and I hope there is a way you can recover some of your loss. We had a bad start to our new year as well. Could not find two young cows after the Xmas storms and after 3 hours of walking the pasture creek and trees and all...

    bedding down bulls

For those of you where the temps get really cold, do you put bedding down for your bull calves to prevent frostbite on the testicles? Our young bulls are in a dry lot situation but have good wind protection but we don't use bedding but wondering if I need to. Haven't had a problem in the past...

    manure/mudd balls

We are one of them with dirty cattle and mud balls! For me, I soak and soak and use soap and scrub and it takes a long time but they will eventually soften and can be scrubed or brushed out. I am going to try the oil idea as well. It takes a heck of a long time to wash and when it is 35 degrees...
