    Questions about cooking corn

will the cooked corn help a calf that has a poor appetite and picks through feed? How much cooked corn would you feed a 700 pound calf per day?

    Where are you from

I missed this one before as well. We are from Hill City, Kansas, in the NW part of the state. 2 hours from Colorado, 1 hour from Nebraska and near nothing!!! Well I should say the geographical center of the continental US is just about 90 miles from here and the worlds largest ball of twine is...

bringing show calves in the barn

Barn is not heated, just a way to get out of the wind and on some dry bedding to lay down. Thanks for the response!

    flushing a cow

I think over the last 3 years we have averaged a cost of between $50-$100 per embryo frozen. This included cost of feeding donors at the ET facility. Also, if flushes did not work, this was also factored and I have only had one flush that produced more than 15 embryos. I believe that if you do...

bringing show calves in the barn

Was just wondering if it does more harm than good to bring cattle inside the barn in the this weather. Our show calves have been outside through the last 2 snowstorms and are in a pretty protected area, but laying down is either muddy and cold or frozen and cold. We thought about bringing them...

Flushing a heifer (If you could answer the other 2 Please)

I think generally it is a risky business flushing a heifer. We had flushed a heifer once and had success. However, this heifer was almost 2 years old and the flush was an insurance policy of sorts. We went off natural heat and used a real low dose of shots on her and still got 18 embryos. The...

    Fitting Costs?

I think TJ makes a very good point. Those that are lower in rates may be the most hard working and loyal. We have dealt with a fitter for several years and he is cheap and good and loyal. I believe when we used him we paid his hotel and meals and so much per day to do whatever he was needed to...

Shipping cost from Texas to Michigan

You can call lathrop trucking and get an estimate from them. I checked on them last summer to haul a pair from south texas to kansas and I thought it was pretty high but heard they are good.  I was able to find an awesome Steer Planteer who helped me out and we worked out a great deal. Good luck.

    CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY!!!!!!!!! >:*

I would bet a million bucks it was the little kids. Some cattle just FREAK when they see little people. We weaned and was halter breaking my sons steer who is only 500 pounds at this point. The calf is coming along nicely and so I tell my son he needs to start bonding with the calf, etc, etc. He...

    Novice Showmen

That is such a great picture...what a future there... Here is my 7 year old showing his first year.  In his first showmanship class, the judge asked him why he placed the back feet split on the profile stance. He said "cause my mom said so!!"  The audience just busted up. They are so fun to watch.

    Charolais colored calves

I think it has to do with your particular area where you live. Around here, there are some Char cattle and the champion steer at our fair was a Char cross this year. The smoke calves around here are very popular and usually sell very well at the local sale barn. But a full Charolais with pink...

    Opinion On Steer Please

I am glad they aren't the same calf b/c I was not impressed with the 2nd calf, or maybe it is just the angle and position of the picture. Your steer looks to have some nice depth of body, I would personally like to see that hind quarter tie in lower, but overall a solid calf.

    what do ya think

I really like her depth of body. nice heifer.
