    show steer will not lead

It depends on the age.  When young, the pull and release works great.  Older, like weaning age, a donkey can work.  But if they're bigger you sometime just have to overpower 'em.  TRACTOR.

    Exiss vs 4 Star

Had a new custom 4 Star when I showed horses in the early 90's.  It was the best.  If you're building a custom, add a ramp to the outside of the rear gate.  Drops down and makes loading and unloading much easier.  The cost is minimal.  Best of luck.

    Sire question

Why?  Did you hear or read something.  Sorry, typical post.  A statement that has no information to back it up.  If you're talking about the semen's motility and mobility, then that's an easy one.  Contact your local High School or Community College Biology department.  Thaw the semen on your...

    Sire question

Just read my post again and delete the easy calvers and problem calvers.  Breed the larger framed cows to TT and Unstoppable and smaller framed to the more calving ease bulls, I-80 and Shiver.  If you're concerned, breed them all to the later two this year and see what happens.  If they do ok...

    Simmy advice

From an earlier post: WLE Uno Mas X549 - was Reserve Champion Simmental Bull at the recent N.A.I.L.E.  70lb. BW and 755 lb. WW.  Available through Select Sires.  Looks as good on paper as in the ring IMO. http://www.selectsiresbeef.com/index.php?option=com_php&Itemid=114&id=202...

    Sire question

You have 4 different bulls there.  And everyone has an opinion.  Mostly from the heart and not the head.  I'd research each bull, their sires and their dam's breeding.  Just offhand knowing what I know, I'd use Texas Tornado and Unstoppable on the bigger cows, or cows you know to be easy...

Advise on a show heifer needed

Agree with above posts...points to ponder. 1. Feed (show heifer developer?) - What is the formulation? 2. Amount of feed?  Looks like she could use more condition for show. 3. Cotton Seed Hulls or other fillers can help with "girth" 4. You need to work her hair.  Not everyone has the ideal set...

    Best hair whitener

Do you have a Sally's beauty supply near you?  If not you can get it at the grocery but you'll pay more.  Buy a decent but not expensive brand of "So Silver" or other shampoo for silver hair, usually purple in color.  It strips all the yellowing agents and stain causing elements to leave hair...

    Low cost fat cover supplements

i would have to agree with the people recommending corn oil.  It's inexpensive and easy to feed.  I've used it on show horse.  Numerous World Champion Halter horses.  Used to get the box of 2 -2.5 liter bottles at Sam's and they came with a pump.  2 pumps per feeding.  How simple is that?  Great...

What do ya'll think of this exciting bull calf?

I may not be very popular with my candid answer, but if you have to ask, you have to cut him.  We all get caught up in the hype of the promotional bulls each year.  IMO, half of them should be cut.  And if you're bull is high % Maine, then ask yourself, does he have to potential to go win breed...

    Mojito

Well, you have to take what you hear with a grain of salt.  You're going to breed to him.  You like him.  Heard good things.  You bought semen.  I guess it'd all depends on a person's cows, breeding program, feeding program and calving practices.  I was told not to breed my Heat Wave heifer to a...

2 Steers Out of the Same Heat Wave Son and Half Sister of Same Bull

They all are nice looking calves.  I do like the second steer better at this point.  But as you said, time and feed will tell.  I like the heifer for her long spine, feminine features and would suspect she's pretty free moving.  I she's not stout enough down the road, I wouldn't worry.  I'd...

    Jesse James

Thank you to Big M and Xbar.  Yes, I'm trying to raise Reg. Chianina show heifers.  After I get a few of these Jesse James heifers, I breeding to Mr. Who Da Man 322Y, National Champion Chianina Bull.  He is by Who Da Man and out of a Destiny's Ace cow.  Proven Chianina genetics.  I'm not...

    Jesse James

I've made several comments and posted pictures and I feel like they've gone un-noticed.  I was trying to be constructive and state the pluses.  Not sure why I bothered.  You just get a bunch of haters or people trying to tell you why you should breed to the next hottest bull from Denver.  I bred...
