    Cattle Marketing

The catch in so many of these sales, especially when it is all young heifers, is that they are selling show cattle, and the buyers are buying show cattle.  Many times these heifers are not purchased on the dream that they will go into a herd and produce offspring for many years.  The dream is...

    Finally - AI certified!

See'ing that first A.I. calf born from your new skill is the best feeling.  It still makes me feel good when we take the cows to get preg checked, and they are confirmed "bred". Now that you are certified, keep practicing, and do as many cattle as you can.  NUMBERS is the only way to really get...

Bluebonnets & Buckles Sale Registration Reminder

Just wanted to put out a reminder to anyone planning on viewing and/or bidding on cattle at the Bluebonnets and Buckles Onlie Sale this weekend, while at the Texas State Jr. Maine and Chi Show, to register ahead of time.  Though it is not a complecated process, it will be much easier to have it...

Who's all going to the Texas Jr. Maine and Chi Show this weekend

I just thought it would be interesting to hear who all were planning on being there.  I am sure there will be several Planeteers there. Whether you have cattle to take or not, it should be a fun and educational weekend.  My daughter is showing a few Maines and doing several of the contests to...

    Texas State Maine Preview Show

Last years show was a huge success.  I am just estimating, but there were  about 30-50 head in each of the breed shows.  Stock Show U had some great presentations, and actually championed the Team Fitting Contest last year.  They are supposed to be there again this year.  I encourage anyone...

    Breeding opinions?

I would go with the Montego Bay.  If you thought that I-80 would work on her, Montego Bay is a good alternative.  Pedigree wise, he is very similar to I-80 with the Ali on the top side, and Hardcore on the bottom side.  He has also proven himself as a VERY consistent low birth weight sire. ...

    Body Clip or Not?

I guess I will take the other side of the fence on this one.  Around the second week of February, we slicked off our Jr. National cattle to get rid of the winter coat, and to get a head start on the new growth by taking advantage of the cold nights down here in Texas.  We used our flat-head...

    Steer Planet Online Auctions

I am very excited for our Bluebonnetts and Buckles sale on April 27th.  System seems to be running very well, and I just got in about a 1/3 of the consignment cattle today, and it should be a high quality set of heifers and steers.

what are we going to breed all these I-80 heifers to?

I would go with Money Man, Special Delivery, or Hawkeye.  GVC Hawkeye was the bull we used last year for our cattle with Ali and Hardcore genetics in them.

Sell him as a show steer, or keep him a bull? New Pic on 8/11/13

Thank you.  You have to be pretty thick skinned when you put up a thread like this.  I was expecting more criticisms than there were.  I am pleasantly surprised how complementary in general it all went.

Sell him as a show steer, or keep him a bull? New Pic on 8/11/13

48 pound calves are definitely not what we try to breed for, though we do focus heavily on producing moderate birth weight Maine Anjou cattle.  In this instance, it is more of a function of gestation length, rather than just shear size.  He was born 28 days early, yet weaned off as the biggest...

    Kinda politacal

I am 100% in agreement with Chambero on his comments about the criticisms of America and our government.  What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.  If it is Un-American to criticize "W", then you can not criticize Obama.  In addition, just an observation.  It seems so many people...

Sell him as a show steer, or keep him a bull? New Pic on 8/11/13

Yep, I agree about the sire.  He is an obscure bull, but the pedigree is pretty incredible.  Deuces Are Wild's dam is still one of my favorite females I have seen in a long time.  We actually have another Deuces son out of Montego Bay and Moves Like Jagger's dam that we are getting ready for Jr...

    Sugar Ray

Sugar Ray calves definitely had disposition issues.  Anybody new to the show cattle deal can not even comprehend how bad they were.  That being said, one of the easiest going, best cows I ever owned was a Sugar Ray x Angus cow.  We showed her as a market heifer, and beat most of the local steers...
