    Fort Worth Show-Bad areas?

If you are in the Beach St. and 820 area on the north side of Ft. Worth, you should be fine.  Lot's of nice hotels in that area, and over toward the Meachum and I35W area.  I wouldn't get anything south of Meachum and I30 along I35W.

How important is a web site?

As others have said already, a website is a very important marketing tool.  Also said, which I completely agree with, is that you need to have an online presence to bring even more value to your website.  When people see posts on Facebook, or see links on Cattle.com, Steerplanet, Showsteers.com...

Classifying Angus at Fort Worth Stock Show

I think your biggest risk is shape of hip on him.  Maybe a little too much mass to consider an Angus.  Head looks good, but may not clipped blocky enough. Hard to explain, but if you can make them look short headed and short necked at classification, it helps a bunch.  I am hoping to get 2 into...

    Anyone like craft beer?

Spaten Optimizer is my choice, if I have the choice of anything.  Over 600 years of brewing beer has done them well.

    Denver 13 bulls

Personally I do not consider a PHAC or THC bull maternal perfection.  I know I don't want my cows and replacement heifers being PHA carriers.

Screen size for grinding ear corn?

I don't know about the screen size for grinding ear corn, but that is a great feed!  We used it a lot when we backgrounded calves.  The best feed ever i found was earlage.  We put the picker head on our silage chopper and harvested the ears when the corn was still over 26%, put it in the pit...

2013 NWSS Bull Comments & Opinions

SEA I like your logic in putting this thread together.  Bulls need to be evaluated for what they are.  Comparing a calving ease bull to a cow killer can be like trying to compare apples and oranges.

    Careers and Jobs

I understand where you are coming from about Ag Majors, and mainstream business, and in most respects, you are correct. Ag degrees do not prepare you to work in Corporate America, but I'd argue that college in general does not prepare you. What made a difference for me that set me apart from the...

Who impacted you as a clipper/fitter?

I just wanted to bump this thread up to encourage more post on it. Like I said, this is kind of a tribute to the people in our lives, and a thank you.  My thank you on here turned out to be a real thank you to one of my mentors. I didn't even know this person read steerplanet, but he was very...

    Careers and Jobs

I graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS in Animal Science.  My education and ag background helped me get a job with a Major Class 1 railroad.  I spent the first 4 years of my career working in the Ag Marketing group, and then another 2 years working on an ag equipment desk...

    Early Fall Calf Sales Question

If you are looking to go look at, and possibly purchase, a fall born calf in an online action in January or February, how do you want them presented?  I know a lot traders do not like to see any clipping done on the calves before they get them.  But for the families and advisors that are looking...

    Has anyone else noticed?

It was not my intent to come across rude or condescending about the new members on steerplanet.  Like I start my whole thread with, I totally appreciate the new members to steerplanet.  Also, I do not condone this behavior from the veteran members, be it toward other veteran members, or new...

Who impacted you as a clipper/fitter?

I made a mention of some of the people that really influenced and taught me how to clip and fit cattle in another post.  Thought it might be good go hear who were the people that influenced you.  These people need to get the credit for their time, their patience, and their trust, that allowed...

    Clipping/blending Necks & Front Ends

Thank you for both the kind words, and for watching my video.  That was a fun one to do, and still my favorite.  I need to take the time to do a couple more videos.  Funny thing is, most of the skills I learned, were learned right there in your great state of Wyoming, with a few thousand head of...

    Has anyone else noticed?

First off, I want to make it clear that it is great that steerplanet is getting so many new members, and new posters.  That is what this site is for, and the more people that take part in it, the better it is.  That being said, has anyone noticed an influx of new posters that have been...

    Maines and Mainetainers

You make a good point.  Would be interesting to know how much impact this might make, but would be very hard to quantify.  Will the buyers just start buying 3/4 bulls so they can register the daughters, or will they just switch to another breed like Simi x Angus.  I don't think this is supposed...

    Clipping/blending Necks & Front Ends

Some of y'all sure do make clipping sound complicated.  How many blades do some of you use to clip just one animal?  (lol) I agree with the shaving the neck with a pair of flatheads a month before the show if you have time.  And again to my post earlier, the torch does a nice job about 3-4...

    Maines and Mainetainers

I am all for that.  All the sires we have to offer are 3/4 Maine or higher, making them able to produce registered calves even out of commercial cows.

    Clipping/blending Necks & Front Ends

Try torching the necks.  Sure cuts down on the gouges from the clippers when they move.
