Changes in your breed......say the last 10-15 years

I'm well aware that they don't breed for the show ring at all. There's a difference between good on paper and good in production. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not opposed to that option.

Changes in your breed......say the last 10-15 years

The issue is, would you call most of those cattle good? Haven't seen much love for Waukaru in the last few years.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

If only using Legacy were that easy. So far his semen has brought 5k a unit when offered. We were able to buy a share in Red Power who is a Red Reward full sib and I think he will be very useful as well. I'll be saving my pennies and try really hard to get some Legacy the next time he's...

    Mind bender

Just call up Joshua Kastel. He's got an immensely good reputation for being helpful and kind.

    stirling bull sales

Can we talk about why structure seems to be far less of a concern in the UK than it is anywhere else? A couple of those bulls look genuinely great, but the high seller and a few others look like they couldn't walk to the other end of my pastures. I can't imagine they're really as unsound and...

Changes in your breed......say the last 10-15 years

Yep, you're right. Doesn't exactly change much as far as the show ring though.

Changes in your breed......say the last 10-15 years

No, because you can only register them at 50%. He doesn't know what he's talking about. As per usual.

    Ft Worth steer show

Yep,  very diplomatic. But I thought the thing to do these days was to speak your mind and forget all that PC culture stuff. Mr. Austin has had a hand in as many good ones in the last 20 as anyone and I'd bet my left foot he knows in his heart that judge dun goofed.

    Getting weight on market heifer

A lot depends on what you're feeding her now,  her age,  and if you plan on breeding her or eating her.

    our show bull 2017

I agree, he looks really nice. Little bit of advice, make sure you get that tailhead mowed down some more the next time you show him. I bet he's a little longer hipped and smoother back there than his picture shows at the backdrop.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

If you can sacrifice structure that much,  then sure. There are a ton of good Hereford bulls that are also great structured.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

Maybe I really just can't see this bull,  but I've yet to see a picture of him I wouldn't call straight fronted.

    Possible donor cow

Yeah I'd be surprised if any Y lazy Y or Waukaru bulls added any rear quarter. I've also got it on good confidence that Dover wouldn't do much for you in terms of body. But those cows will work hard and do their best every year. I'd probably look into using some 034 or something with Eagle 148...

    Possible donor cow

I agree with Ryan on 80C big time. The females we have with his influence are okay, but he took a lot of body out of them and our cow herd are fairly uniformly big bodied cattle. I will say he improved udders, but all of the cows we have with him up close in pedigrees are destined to either be...

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

I'm sure he's a PB since he's from Sullivan. I've raised a few hundred herefords and never had any white chests make one look straight like that. Look at the base of his shoulder transitioning into his leg.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

He looks awfully straight up front in that picture.

    Bad attitude bulls

Every animal we have had from our Leveldale sire. They're fine in the pasture or lot,  but they're certainly not meant to be show cattle. I'm not sure if they're mean,  but I know for a fact they're dumb.

Does walking help a calf that pops in his joints?

Best thing for the calf would be making him walk for food and water and hay. We set up our turn out paddocks so the hay is in the furthest corner from the entry gate,  the water at the gate,  and we feed inside or have it as far from the other two as possible.

    Weight Gain

Some good info here,  but if you're looking to maximize your ADG,  you need to limit hay intake.

    First Primo Calf posted

We've got about half a dozen ET calves by Primo due in April out of some of the best Shorthorn donors in the breed. Most exciting plus mating we've ever had for sure. Best part is, they're all sexed female.
