Thoughts on this steer calf. Yellow jacket x Point taken

HD Bloodstone x CYT Dream Lady Solution heifer that we sold 1/2 of to Colburn Cattle Co last fall. We're really excited about her. She should run hard at NAILE.

Heifer Show Winners -- "The Look"

Pays to believe or an Angus bull I'd say.

Thoughts on this steer calf. Yellow jacket x Point taken

I've sold plenty of calves off a cell phone picture. It's not rocket science.

Thoughts on this steer calf. Yellow jacket x Point taken

Pictures are an extremely limited medium for evaluating stock, and I think most people just want the best look they can get. The picture is about 10% as good as the calf in this example. I bet he's pretty decent.

Heifer Show Winners -- "The Look"

Doesn't really matter what would have won a decade ago, does it? She's okay, but I bet she just flat gets out horsed.

Heifer Show Winners -- "The Look"

She's alright. A little coarse on both ends, but my main concern would be her teats. Other than that she looks like a very good cow prospect.

Heifer Show Winners -- "The Look"

And yet, there are national Jr heifer shows that are posting record attendences. It still takes basically two full days to judge the heifer show at IL, and our steer show takes one huge day to get through. I don't think all shows are dying out, but it's as important as ever to be able to...

    Best Deal you've found!

The day I bought SULL Traveling Ruby was probably my smartest day ever. She was pretty cheap, won a bunch, and I made all my initial investment back by the time she was 3, and now she's raising the best heifer calf ive ever had. She'll go back to being flushed Sept 1, and I already have well...

Don't be afraid to not follow the crowd

I was just giving you a hard time. You have bought and sold and made many hundreds times more animals than I have and do an excellent job. I just thought it was a fun bit of serendipity.

Don't be afraid to not follow the crowd

A Canadian bred female didn't sell incredibly high at a show cattle oriented sale in Iowa? And those genetics work for and are appealing to those in Canada? Shocker. She really is impressive though, and was clearly a good buy.

    Hereford Fever?

Streamline Genetics, Gene Source, or you could call GKB Herefords directly. When we sold Mason to GKB, only they and Streamline had semen, but more distributors may have it now that he is so popular. I also have some on hand if you can't get ahold of any those other ways.

    Hereford Fever?

Mason is easily the best bull I have ever cared for of any breed.

    Hazel Clone

I have a fair bit of experience feeding and caring for them. I've fed close to 20, they were all Shorthorns though.

    Experimenting with Angus

There are no calves yet, they're basing their caution on his sisters. Which are pretty sound. We are using him quite a lot and will have a bunch of calves next spring.

    A Mixed Bunch

Gary, is this the bunch my dad went by yesterday? He mentioned a very good roan cow, but maybe that was at a different pasture.

    Bred heifer question??

I've taken February calving heifers to NWSS several times with no issues. They stayed home from FWSS though.

    Portacool system

It just depends on your environment, goals, and facility. A port a cool works well maybe 3/4 days a week here in IL.

    MAB bull

Most are great until they're about 900lbs, and then they can't keep it together.

    my girls (pics)

Hey LJ, I'd like to talk to you guys about maybe buying a few cows if you have any to spare later on this fall. Those F1s would be perfect for my plans. I would have bought some of your heifers you had for sale earlier this spring if I had the room for them. Beautiful cows.
