You could also try leaving her in the sun for a couple of days.  Not ideal, but sometimes it gets them to let go of the old hair.  We've ran into the same situation when we didn't slick heifers, and started rinsing right away.. It's definitely frustrating!  Good luck!

I'm not arguing that it is possible that you won't get a single carrier, you could get really lucky.  Chances are more in the favor that you will see closer to 5 than 0 though.  And it can also go the other way.  You can get really unlucky (or lucky if you are looking for the increased bone, etc...

No, the chances of a carrier bull and a clean cow having a carrier calf are always 50%.  I'm confused by what showsteer means by a "hot carrier". 

Monopoly and Walks Alone are both TH carriers!!!  A carrier is a carrier, I'm not sure what you mean by "hot" carrier...  Anything that is THC has a 50% chance of passing on the TH affected allele.

Clones are genetically IDENTICAL to the animal they are cloned from.  The differences you see in the the clone and the animal it is cloned from are due to environmental effects. The differences you see in calves from clones versus the original is due to the sheer number of calves that are born...

Twisted, it's not the accuracy of the test, it's the quality of the DNA you get from hair that is the problem and the fact that many people do not know how to take a good hair sample that will yield high quality and quantity DNA.  Although, there is the same issue with blood samples too.......  :-\

Look into Cool Calf, or at least talk to them.  We found out it was going to be cheaper for us to buy a brand new unit than to try and use one we had given to us, then have the refrigeration guy come out and hook it up.  Cool Calf also has all the safety features available too and they can help...
