    Straight calf

i've seen real straight doctor who's out of fairly sound cows. not many, just a couple. maybe the genes lined up just right for a bad one this time...

    Stolen Fan @ Ohio AGR

there was some more stuff stolen. the committee even tried to warn everybody after the show on saturday, at least an announcement was made after grand selection. kinda sad really.

    Scarlet and Gray Show Advice?????

ringworm that has hair growing back is usually considered not active. if the skin looks healthy i would assume that it would be considered inactive.

    Cattle Battle Show

both are great shows. clark county has awesome facilities. it doesn't matter if it snows there, the barn is always above freezing. scarlet and gray has had some of the best cattle exhibited there over the course of the season in the past. it seems to be one that everyone likes to go to.

    Electronic Heat Detection Systems

i can't tell you how many transponders come with it but i will say that over half of the pucks came off the cows after getting ridden hard. i'm not sure if it is the glue that was bad but it didn't work really well. the patches are easy to see so they relatively easy to find. we also use zip...

    Ohio State vs. Nebraska

we'll see about the student tickets here this spring. i have been frustrated with pryor on the field, but at least i see him coming out of classrooms regularly. i am kind of apathetic about the whole tattoo situation. i like the younger qb from texas Kenny Guitton on the roster. he can...

    Ohio State vs. Nebraska

So it looks like OSU will be playing in Lincoln against Nebraska next October. Since I made the drive up to Minnesota to watch them play the Gophers, I figured I could make the trip from Columbus to Lincoln. I guess I am trying to say is that if it is possible for me to get a ticket, I would...

What to breed alias heifer to???

northern lite we haven't had one over 70 lbs. two have been in the 50 lb range. they shouldn't lose hair or eye appeal. we have kept a few of the heifers as replacements. plus they should be plenty sound. from what i have heard from the people that saw him before he died was that he was the...

    Clubby bull for angus cows

i can't see too many structure problems happening with a functional angus background. you are probably flexible as to what you can breed to. monopoly wouldn't be bad for haired calves but the steers probably wouldn't have enough power to standout. heifers might be alright. i like the lifeline...

    poppin hair

brush, brush, and then brush some more. if you work the hair enough at home, then it will pop at a show. trust me, i know it may seem like that hair will never stand  but it will if you brush it and train it at home. here is what we do on all of our calves, it works wonders on calves getting...

    implants on show steers/heifers???

we don't implant heifers at all. maybe a steer if we feel like they need a little more help growing. haven't had to do it in a couple years since we didn't have anyone showing steers, but there were years when i would ralgro a smaller steer.

Results of AGR Holiday Classic show??

i would agree with this assessment. i liked the cattle in the ring a top 5 don't get me wrong i thought there were surely good enough to win, but i liked the top 5 as a set more in ring b (you could have switched them around some as he admitted). i do think the younger guy was really critical of...

Results of AGR Holiday Classic show??

they were a little bit all over the board. it was interesting though since it appeared it didn't matter what you got in ring a, it was probably going to be different in ring b. i liked the top five as a whole in b more than a. he used good cattle in a, i just thought the five in b made a better...

Thoughts on this 2011 promotional sire prospect...

cool looking dude. i am kinda liking the pictures of these young bulls not fitted to the extreme. just a clip job is fine. kinda shows the owners are confident in him.

Thoughts on Slick Shearing show heifer

oh and i dont touch the flank, tail head or legs. i go with the hair not against it, kinda just thinning it from top to bottom. i start blending the lower quarter into the rear legs and at the shoulder down into the fronts.

Thoughts on Slick Shearing show heifer

before this year i did not shear steers or heifers in the spring. i always figured they would shed enough and i could start training hair again. it worked on one steer to the point where i was satisfied. this past year i did it to both heifers in april then turned them out with the bull. when i...

How do I Clear Ringworm up?

scratching the dead stuff off is essential. we have had luck with regular fungus treatments for athlete's foot and jock itch as well. not sure if it is available in your area but tractor supply sells a product called MTG (mane tail and groom) that must have bacon grease in it because it sure...

    Alais prodegy

he's notorious for siring straight cattle off both ends, but he will add some power and moderate frame normally. if the cows are more maternally bred then you are probably less likely to have real issues with cripples. when he is bred to steery cows is when he really tends to throw absolute...
