Opinions on how to handle situation

For the record (can't believe I'm defending him at this point) I don't think this breeder drugged the heifer.  I think they work cattle different than I was raised to do and as a result they react differently than expected.  Plus, she's just one that doesn't want to be a show heifer  and isn't...

where to find the fans on ebay???

I bought three of them trying to save a little money.  Only put one in the barn...the other two are still in the box.  They do work and put out some air but no where near as much as the Sullivan's Show Barn Fans.  We just went ahead and bought 2 more of the Sullivan's fans.  I've still got the...

Opinions on how to handle situation

To Jill: There is nothing fishy about this story at all.  We've shown cattle a good while and NEVER purchased one halter broke...so I wouldn't know what one of those look like.  We always break our own.  A five month old heifer shouldn't be that hard so we never even gave it a second thought...

Opinions on how to handle situation

Thanks for the responses.  I don't disagree with any of you...as I stated I don't want her on the place.  We've turned her out today into one of our small turnouts (where we turn out nightly) and just dumped feed/hay in a feeder.  We're done working with her or even attempting to work with her. ...

Opinions on how to handle situation

Purchased a young heifer (5 months old) from breeder that is very involved with youth scramble program.   She was purchased for a 9 year old that is just getting started, and who purchased this heifer with his own money.  Had trouble with her from the get go.  Called breeder early and told him...

    Question for the Texans N/C

If your a die hard stockshower, there is always the Heart O Texas Fair and Rodeo going on right now. You could get rodeo tickets, take them to the carnival, and walk through the barns.  We will be there with heifers....not siure what else is showing.  This is a pretty nice Junior Show...Waco...

What is everyone paying for hay?

There's a ton of hay on craigslist still.  We are located about 35 miles NW of Austin.  We bought 20 round bales about 3 weeks ago from a guy near the airport in Austin, but he will deliver anywhere.  We paid $60 per bale (heavy 5x5 bales) of good quality coastal DELIVERED.  We also bought 5x5...

    butchering show steers

We have had 3 done this year and at least one done every year for the last 4 years...have never had less than 60%.  Just picked up a 1/2 of one yesterday that weighed 1410 pounds and it was 438 pounds of meat!  This was for only HALF the calf! The other calf we took this year weighed 1498 pounds...

    Looking for simmi show heifer

Anyone have a nice simmi heifer at a reasonable price?  Would prefer a young one that can be shown 2 years.  Prefer one in Texas just because of transportation etc.  Will show at county and Texas majors, as well as some summer/fall shows possibly.

    SA Steer Results

We had one in the sale and watched the entire sale....Bonham did not purchase the GC in the auction...must have sold it.  GC brought 75,000, Res. was 30,000, all breed champions were 8000+ 10,000 scholarships(several had already won the scholarship so it went to the reserve), Reserve Breeks were...

    kinda show feed to use

Showmaster here  is $13.80/50# bag. We have fed Hi-Pro grower or finisher the last 3 years with very good results.  The cattle never turn their nose up at it either.  It runs 10.50-11.50 per bag.  Very consistent and price never got above 11.65 last year.

Any one heard of some "calming shots" for steers?

I can't remember the exact name but there are 2 different ones.  I believe one is Thorazine.  I've known people that have used it and it does help but is NOT a cure all.  There is a vet in Fredericksburg, TX that has an all natural mix that you can give--which has pretty good results. That...
