    how big is too big

JIT, I pretty much completely agree with you and I also like what RW said. You should be selecting for cattle that will work for you, not cattle that you have to work for. I believe that more often than not, too many breeders fall into the latest fad. Unfortunately alot of the time this is the...

    how big is too big

Of course RW already knows my thoughts on this topic, but I figured I could share it with the rest of you. First and foremost I agree with what most have said in there is no such thing as cow that is too big or too small, only ones that work for you. I think the most important point in deciding...

    The Red Angus Post

You can find a photo of Sakic on Genex's website under the Red Angus Herd Sires. He looks pretty good to me. TPX, could you tell me an approximate frame score on him. Thanks ahead of time. Jim

NEW GAME, GUESS THE HIGH SELLER!

TJ, I can agree with you on most of those. If I just wanted some good functional cows that maybe I might show. My picks would be: 1B 1R 9B 10i 15A 28

    The Red Angus Post

RW, Sent you PM about what I'm looking for and also was wondering if you could tell me anything about the GenEx Bull Red Six Mile Sakic 832S. Thanks again for all your help. Jim

    The Red Angus Post

NBAR Cattle Co. is selling the Mulberry daughters in Russel Springs Ks. Don't think you will find any julians there. Not really his type (or mine) of cattle - they tend to be a little smaller framed and lighter boned than what I usually look for, would also like to see better hip and leg...

    The Red Angus Post

There are a few Mulberry daughters selling in western Kansas at the end of the Sept. These will be some of the first to sell in the states that I know about. I'm planning on making the trip - it also coincides with the convention that is being held in Kansas this year. RW, Do you know who is...

    Name this breed

I would say it is either the Bernais or the Blonde d'Aquitaine. Those are my best guesses and based on the amount of muscle shown, I would say Bernais first.

    Temperament EPDs

I'm not so sure they had a problem as much as a widespread misconception that all Limis are "loco". You know, just like evrybody associates prolapses and balloon teats with Herefords. Cancer Eye, too. Saw some good Herefords at the neighboring County's Fair. Garybob, I will agree with you to...

    Temperament EPDs

garybob, You are correct when you stated that the Limousin breed has came out with an EPD for disposition. They knew they had a problem and are working hard to try and fix it. There are a few other breeds that should look into this as well.

    History of Angus Sires

DL, You are absoulutely correct about the Advantage board!! Most of them seem to have an inborn hatred for research as well. I tried explaining to them where the heifer pregnancy EPD came from and what exactly it was, and a couple of them, (angus2 more specifically, still get fired up thinking...

Need some advice and maybe help if anyone is from State of Washington

afhm, As much as I respect you and your opinion, I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. After finally getting a chance to talk to Skylar in person, it was more than just Gizmo that was stolen. He was missing straws of Cunia, Heatwave, and Vortec and did not know any...

    how many do you have?

We run about 150-200 head of commercial cows depending on the year, quality of replacement heifers and the amount of available forage. Pretty much Red Angus based, although, the neighbors bulls have contributed some different colors in their as well. If the heifers are good enough, we'll keep...

Need some advice and maybe help if anyone is from State of Washington

OH Breeder, I know Skylar fairly well and have known him to be a man of his word. Let me try and get a hold of him and see what's going on and I'll get back to you. Sorry, for this occurernce to have happened to you, it is very unfortunate. It definitely shouldn't have happened. I'm not really...

    problems w/ Breeder's World

Red, I have had some similar problems, although I've been able to open it up, most if the time it has been really slow and I have also had to hit the refresh button a few times. I assume they are having problems with their site, since I'm not the only one to have problems now.

Why do you think really functional cattle can't also be the showring type cattle

Showheifer, I am currently  located out of Ft. Collins, Colorado. I am currently at Colorado State working on a Master's degree. I competed collgiately for Colby Community College in Kansas and at the University of Nebraska -Lincoln. Hopefully within the next year I will be finished with my...

Why do you think really functional cattle can't also be the showring type cattle

Showheifer, Thanks for clarifying and thanks for the compliment. I know some people could think that I'm talking out my wazuu, but as a fairly young judge trying to gain more respectability and the opportunity to judge more shows, I have always made sure to try and practice what I preach. I know...

Why do you think really functional cattle can't also be the showring type cattle

Show Heifer, reading these two statements disturbs me quite a bit. As judge of Market Animals, it is our job to pick an animal that is sufficient in both the amount of muscle that he has and the amount of finish. If I do not think that a steer has either of these, no matter how pretty or how...

Why do you think really functional cattle can't also be the showring type cattle

I guess I will chime in on this one starting out from a judges point of view and then I will discuss it also from what I see as a commercial cattleman's point of view. As a judge, I try every time to start from the ground up. If a heifer does not fill her tracks or is too strait off of either...
