    PETA is at it again!!

As a county Farm Bureau board member I love to talk to people like that ! You cant believe the things those people actually think and say. The youngest 4-H member knows more than these people. As a farmer, cattle producer and father Ibeleive we must try to educate them every chance we get. These...

OK Planeteers.....Time 2 USE Your Brain AGAIN.........

As far as HSUS and PETA, the rumor??? of gov. RICO actions is a breath of fresh air. At least some gov action would bring them to full light.

OK Planeteers.....Time 2 USE Your Brain AGAIN.........

Hey Brad, not rain on your great brainstorming session because I'heard some super ideas here. How about this: somehow incorperating this into a FFA or 4H show with emphasis on records, management, animal perrformance and with comunity service as an additional catagory. Instead of who has the...

OK Planeteers.....Time 2 USE Your Brain AGAIN.........

Good ideas often start from small discusions like this WTG Brad. But lets start in your own back yard. At the Illinois Beef Expo this past weekend , I saw several really nice calves bumped down the line by eartags. How can you ask kids to put in the time and effort to compete ,when they show and...

    generator

If you jackpot any at all, remember you're going to run fans. If your area's fairgrounds are like ours, you cantdepend on power at all. I had a 6500 watt and couldn't pull fans and blower w\o gutting the generator. I traded for a 8000 wattand it works fine. Make sure when you buy look for the...

    trying to get started

When I talked about buying a steer or heifer I didn't mean spending a farm down payment on one you can have alot of fun w/ a $1000 dollar steer. You can't base buying decision on money alone. In our county we have a very good 4-H auction after the show. Abuyer who doesn't want to keep the animal...

    trying to get started

All this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. In the end you are the one making the final disicion -you know your kids, so you decide -  buying steers from reputable people is alot cheaper starting out . As aproducer its hard not to try to raise them yourself. Just keep in mind the real...

    building a new barn

I helped build two coolers last winter. One was a large Morton type building ( working great). The other a lean- to type w/ actual cool calf unit (bad design). The big building uses two 3-ton a\c units with air handlers mounted on ceiling (ducts move air to pens)
