    CC Cujo or G9

I would try Gary Chesnut of Illinois on the cujo semen. He is the breeder of the bull and much closer to you than Ragsdale. If not him I'm pretty sure Joe Elmore at Allerton Illinois still has some in his tank.

    Shorthorn bulls of the 80s

We used a son of Bonnie Roberta by GR Paul Harvey called AFK Taurus. Best cow maker I have ever seen, he made some real belly draggers that milked. Problem was they all weighed 1800 lbs or more. Anyone have a picture of Bonnie Roberta?

    Shorthorn bulls of the 80s

Here is a picture of Green Ridge Robin R 180. She was the center of our program and all of our bulls were related to her. GR Topper was a full sib to R180's dam, Payoff was a grandson, and Exclusive was a son. I know that my Grandpa Buck loved her! I still think she looks good even by today's...

    Shorthorn bulls of the 80s

Jody, I couldn't tell you what frame he was I would have been 6 or 7 at the time. Payoff and Exclusive were almost identical by all accounts and both went back to R 180 as dam and grand dam. Payoff was an easy calver and we continued to use him on heifers up until 2004 when we ran out of semen...

    Shorthorn bulls of the 80s

The next bull is Green Ridge Topper he was a Hub's Impact Two X Fairview Robin that we purchased as a 2 year old. Topper was on test in a bull station and out gained all breeds in the test. However, they couldn't get a bid on him as he was the only horned bull of any breed in the sale. Merle...

    Shorthorn bulls of the 80s

The first Picture is of 3W Payoff. We leased him for 1 or 2 breeding seasons in 1988-89 from Merle Welch. That same year we purchased GR Exclusive a GR Dreamboat X Green Ridge Robin R180 with Harold Hoskins from Merle. Exclusive was the high seller that day I think we paid $11,500 for him...

    mav bellringer hfr

That sounds really good to me! What cow family is the bull that is out of the Osage grandaughter? More muscle and eye appeal than the Osages (clapping). You are speaking my language now, I just may have to use this bull. Do you have a picture of this red bull calf?

What were the Bellringer Bw's out of curiosity? With his actual Bw I would expect them to be quite low. Specifically what is the BW on that bull calf that I like? Do they grow well or just average? Lots of questions just curious.

I really like those heifers and the Bellringers in general. I am just not big on the fact that he goes back to a chi angus cow, but that doesn't mean we won't use him next year on heifers. I really like the bull calf you have on FB by Bellringer. HE IS NICE! If I didn't know where you lived I...

THE MAN WHO DISCOVERED DIVIDEND_AND NEWER POSTS WITH DIVIDEND INFLUENCED CATTLE

GREAT RE-READ! It had been sometime since I had read this post and I had forgotten all the great information. A lot of this stuff is information that if we don't pass it on by word of mouth it will be lost in the history books! Anyone else notice in the July Shorthorn Country that Robert Alden...

    What is a desirable carcass?

I'm looking for an animal that will yield 62-65% of its body weight in carcass. So a 1250 lbs animal would have a 775-800 hanging weight. I don't want a huge carcass with big steaks because almost all consumers today don't desire a steak larger than 12-14 oz. I personally like a high choice...

    Something Different

We have a "bank steer" program in our area. A local producer supplies a group of calves of the same type or breed. The kids draw a number for pick and then select a steer. A local bank foots the bill for all the calves. Then at fair time the kids show the calves in a separate class with the...

It is soooo hot here... (compared to normal!)

The entire state of Illinois is in a moderate drought. We are the #2 corn producing state and people are already talking crop failure as it is so dry! The month of June has brought less than 1/2 inch of rain in most locations.  The next 10 days is plus 90 degree heat with no chance of rain.

Rank the toughest majors and state fairs

Louisville Shorty show is without question the best show in North America. I have seen four heifers that each won a state fair in the same class.  After that I think the Hereford show at Denver (horned and polled) is an easy second. If you haven't seen this show it is impressive no matter what...

I provide the carcass data...you guess the breed

Congrats to Highland Farms!!! That is absolutely great data. Maybe Shorthorn University should have taken the time to stop in and see your operation?  ;D

What do you mean no commercial shorthorns?

Aj you are dead on with the black  hidded deal. As long as we aren't black we will continue to have these issues. x-bar my point with the Holsteins is that we shouldn't care what others do to make a buck. If someone wants to use a bull then let them. It. Doesn't affect you any. I get very...

I also agree that Salute has serious problems. I would not use him.

What do you mean no commercial shorthorns?

Discussion is fine! I am just so tired of hearing about a guys who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who's neighbor knows a guy with shorthorn cattle that has C sections all the time.

    wheat harvest progress?

Combines starting to role in central Illinois. My dad says this is the only time in his lifetime that he remembers wheat cut in May! No reports on yield but April frost damaged some up to 40 percent.
