    Duis Farms visit-heifer update

What were the trio's BW's? I know that being out of a recip and embryo calves this can be debatable, but with thier brothers EPD's I would want them to be fairly low.

SULL GNCC Urlacher ET Then and Now

We tried to lease him out this summer, but it didn't work out. He will be for sale this fall, but we like to keep an extra bull around for insurance.  I know most people won't believe this, but we use him on all of our heifer that are not related. He consistently calves in the 70's and low 80's...

SULL GNCC Urlacher ET Then and Now

I agree that he is not nearly as masculine as I would like him to be. In fact, phenotypically he is did not turn into the bull that we thought he would when we purchased him. That being said his calves have really exceeded our expectations, and to me that is a lot more important of a trait than...

SULL GNCC Urlacher ET Then and Now

I find it interesting as I look through most semen catalogs that almost all Shorthorn bulls are pictured as yearlings.  Then 5 years later that is still the only pic that you see.  I thought I would post a picture of our Senior Herd Sire when we bought him in 2008 and today. I have also attached...

Is this the thickest Shorthorn heifer you've seen?

Easily the heaviest muscled shorthorn femle I have ever seen! I definitely would not want to keep her for a replacement. Besides being to terminal her structure is very concerning.

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

I believe he is using PIG LATIN ;) Mark I remember you posted a couple months ago that you just wanted to scream "the Canadians are Coming", but no one was listening. I guess I was listening, and apparently thinking the same thing.

    Preferred Preg Check Method?

I am with hamburgerman. 60-70 days is much more safe and our vet is more accurate with the sex. Also, if a cow is open he can sometimes let us know why cystic, ect.  However, if you A.I. everything you could sure set a group of cows back pretty fast waiting 60 days to preg check.

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

In my original post I did not ask if he was going to be "too big" I just asked if he was significantly bigger or larger framed than the Ramrod sons. I was just curious, this bull is the first Ramrod I have ever seen in person, and I have never seen a Pioneer to my knowledge. I guess I was just...

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

JIT I didn't think he was going to be too big, but his frame was something that Dr. Moore brought up as a difference from the other bulls. My dad was actually more interested in the Pioneer bull, but got out voted by his two sons. He still likes a 7 frame bull.

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

Scotland and JIT I what did you think of the 1/2 interest lot 10 bull? He was the bull I really wanted from the vidoes.  The high seller was our second pick. If we didn't get Imperative we were going to hold out and buy him. I guess it is a good thing that we didn't run out of money because I...

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

No he wasn't. Also, thankfully in terms of paperwork all the bulls in transport were up to snuff also.

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

It wasn't me thank God! However, one of the other "transporters" had to sit at a weigh station for 8 hours because apparently a dually and livestock trailer in Iowa needs a US Dot #, a log book, and the driver must have a CDL. Lets just say I will not ever be driving in Iowa with a stock trailer...

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

Saskvalley Ramrod  155R X JT Heroine 94M. She is a 10 year old cow working at Saskvalley that they bought from John Thompson. I have never seen this cow, but I love the Ramrods. I figure if she can still produce under those conditions at 10 years of age she must be pretty special.

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

Well after 3 weeks, a really long drive, and some trouble with the Iowa State Police Saskvalley Imperative is finally home in Central Illinois. I couldn't be more pleased with him and would really like to thank Saskvalley Shorthorns, Derek Jungels, and Dale Studer for getting him home. This...

    insurance on show cattle

$4/ thousand seems way to cheap to me. I just insured our bull that is traveling from Canada to Illinois for the first 6 months that we own him. After that he will never be insured again. We will collect him then turn him out with cows. That semen is better than any insurance policy that I could...

    Hot Commodity/ Commotion Shorthorn bulls

Feed grass, I get what you are saying. We decided to use HC for 2 reasons. One he is heifer safe according to Denny. As far as I am concerned that is the most important thing to me. Denny is one of the most honest guys around so I trust his first had experience over some of the other bulls out...

    Hot Commodity/ Commotion Shorthorn bulls

Hot commodity is a k-kim allure X k-kim Meg 270. He is owned by Denny Jordan and was leased by Cates Farms last year. I am using him on all of my heifers this year. Denny said that he is a sleep easy , heifer safe bull. He seems to work really well on Sonny/ Trump influenced females. Commotion...

    Commend the AAA

I have always wondered why the breed associations just don't restrict registrations on Bulls? I mean if all bulls must be clean to be registered then all purebred producers, and a lot of commercial producers would only be using TH and PHA free bulls. All TH and PHA carrier bulls must be steered...

    Herd Bull Time

Thanks! I did a lot of research and talked to alot of people before we decided to buy him. The biggest factor was that his mother is still producing at 10 years of age under some very tough conditions. After 3 weeks of waiting I get to final see him on Friday. I can't wait!
