    bull for second calf heifer

Most people call a second calf heifer a cow.  ;D Since the cow is red and you need better disposition, what about using a Hereford?  719T might be a good choice for muscle and body.

    The Charolais Curl

On our Herefords with curly hair we would use 1/3 liniment and 2/3 sheen mix. In my opinion it helped. I also agree on the comb down, comb forward, blow forward routine.

The original version of this post contained several inaccuracies. Feed efficiency data will not be included in $B and $F until December 2014. The base year for heifer pregnancy is 2005, not 2006. Sorry for any confusion.

Those are some really beautiful cows. I like it! In addition to homo red and homo polled, you might want to put extra pressure on traits that the Simmental breed has made the most progress in the last 25 years. My guess is this would be calving ease and marbling. Nice website showing the trends...

I don't know. I know people use genetic defect tests on embryos. I don't know if anyone is using a 50K test on embryos or not. The small quantity of DNA would be an issue that would need to be carefully dealt with.

From the Wye webpage: "It was reopened for a brief period to half of the herd in order to complete a research project. " I think this is where most of the red dots that overlap with the black dots come from.
