    Livestock Pharmaceuticals

I am a college student taking a pharmaceutical chemistry class. I have to write a term paper about a drug of my choice, I want to write about a livestock pharmaceutical but I'm not sure which one to pick. Any suggestions? Maybe something relatively new, but will have some data surrounding it...

    Beet Pulp

From what I understand founder is caused from a consumption of a large amount of grains that are highly fermentable (digested very easily and rapidly in the rumen). Beet pulp is primarily used as a filler and has little nutritional value. I wouldn't think it could cause founder. Also cattle...

New 4-H steers (updated with show results)

Looks like a good set of calves. One of the most rewarding things in this whole business is to show a calf you raised. We actually had steaks for dinner tonight out of the steer I showed this summer that was a second generation bred and owned calf on our farm. He wasnt a state fair winner, but...

    Shorthorn calving ease

If we are worried about calving ease on first time heifers we usually use a black bull. Not saying you cant use a shorthorn bull with out having trouble, just seems hard to find one that is consistently calving ease and still has pretty good calves.

    problems getting show hf bred

Sounds like your doing the same thing we would. How much condition is she carrying? It is hard to get a fat one bred.

what do u guys think of my steer

He looks like a good steer, he has a good looking front end and a lot of guts. The wise advice was given to me that a picture should always make the calf look better than it is, that's the point of advertising. With that being said, there are many polite ways to give that constructive criticism...

Shorthorn - white leg hair advice

The less paint the better, I really  prefer a more natural look and don't paint a whole lot on shorthorns. I agree with woodland, its easy to tell when they are painted. I've seen very few painted shorthorns that didn't look painted, I've seen a lot of painted ones that still looked good, but...

    swayed back steer

Thanks for sharing the pics, he looks like he could be a fun project. Also, be careful when your clipping him tight over his hook bones so as to make sure you don't take much hair off at all over his rump, he is a little steep hipped. In addition to how you hold his head and scratch his...

    swayed back steer

IMO being swayed back is a pretty major structural flaw, but it will depend on the judge, how bad it is, and how good the rest of the steer is. and if its not too bad you can make it look better with a lot of good hair, its all relative though

    i 80 question

He is 11 months, I havent had him on a set of scales yet, hopefully I will soon though, probably when I tag him in which will be in a week of two. If I had to guess a weight I would put him around 750 or 8. Hes super thick and heavy muscled, just small framed.

    i 80 question

We used him on a white shorthorn heifer out of Homedale Blizzard. We used him mostly just for calving ease, which worked, she calved unassisted with no problems what so ever. She had a blue roan bull calf that we steered. He's pretty small framed, I worry about if he'll get big enough. He's...

Class project about concealed carry on college campuses

I think that there was more to the presentation in class than just the video, I think it was only a visual aid. So some of the other side and opposing views were probably addressed orally during the presentation. I realize that most people in college are basically adults and are probably...

Class project about concealed carry on college campuses

Other than what they talked about in the video I was unaware that this was even being considered at any colleges. I could see how it would make you feel safer about your daughter, if she is from a farm background im sure she knows how to handle one. My concern is that there are a lot of college...
