I was going to try Ragun Cagun a little this year, I like how he his bred. There will be a few Ree's around this spring.

    One and Only

It would probably be a good idea for somebody to get sexed semen on Pale Face before its to late! [In case you missed that it was a hint JBH]    I will see One and Only this week. I haven't seen Walks Alone in person and I used him, usually don't like to use unproven bulls that I haven't seen...

    Buying Recips--

I use cows that are in the prime of their life, and cows that ALWAYS breed easy.  I did buy some cows this year, I am going to use some of them. They are big Angus, Angus cross cows that are easy keepers.  Put eggs in on my farm early and kick bulls out on them so they breed up.

    Breeding suggestion

That female will absolutely click with SOS or Nutt-N-Butt. That is exacly what type I have the best luck with on these bulls. I have some TJ calves coming out of similar cows this spring, not enough experience with him yet.

    Crop land conversion

I also put chicory in part of it, It must have a 30ft. taproot, because if its dry and everything else stops, chicory keeps going.  If managed right the cows love it. Its one of the highest TDN feeds out there.

    Crop land conversion

I forgot to mention that I have had the best luck with the Barenbrug product. They carry the full line at Albert Lea Seed House.  Tom and the guys will take care of all your needs there. I seeded some of the fields according to soil type, pain in the rear when I did it, but, It really paid off...

    Calving 101

You might not know how big your problem is yet zach, I wouldn't wait for a problem to come if you can prevent it.

    Crop land conversion

I would not follow the NRCS guides in Northern IA, They have the seeding rates to low. I have seeded down 170 a from crop to pasture and will not follow their guidelines any more. The fescue that they want you to put in will not winter in n IA.  I would get your soil types and figure from...

What's the best calving pen for the money?

I really like my Sioux, I threw the red bar off the top swing gate and added a chain to hold the gate over. That red bar hit me in the face and I had a tempertantrum, chain is alot easier to use.

    Building a herd

I feel that if you are were you want to be then you need to set higher goals. I am never satisfied with were I am and always want to improve. For example, the cow might look perfect, but I want her next generation to have a better udder, or feet, or bulls with bigger testicles ect. I am never...

    Coccidiosis question

I had an outbreak last year on baby calves. I ran 72 of 'em in every day and drenched them. I mixed the corid and water and gave it to them with a Synanthic gun, worked great!

    Winning at any Cost?

Up here they are killed at appx. 14 month/1300#s, spring calves, Fall calves don't work in our neck of the woods, what I was implying was the calves should grade with the extra pampered life and show feed AND the age, loads go out gradeing  'bout 90% choice.
