    Angus Cow Breeding Suggestions

What is this cows strengths and weaknesses from a functionality standpoint? How is her absolute performance? EPDs? Why is she so fat?  Does she milk adequately?  Does she consistently bring in the best calf in your herd? What is motivating reason for wanting 10 more like her?

what to breed angus cow to

No matter what the appearnace on this of this cow I still don't know how functional she actually is.  Just what functional traits do you want to improve on her? My first instinct is to use MLS Upgrade on her as this would power her up along with increasing muscle and growth.

    Best way to Sell Bulls

I my experience pictures do not sell commercial bulls; neither do pedigrees.  Also forget about winning show records.  The buyers want trouble free bulls that will perform in their environment and will produce more pounds of calf per 100 cows exposed.  This means producing bulls that can get...

    Shorthorn cow breeding suggestions

If a red bull is OK then I would consider Circle Cee Fired Up: http://slackfarmscattle.com/sires.html.  He is at the bottom of the page. he will do what you want and  more.  A dark red charo,,ais will maintain the color pattern of the cow.

Need low Birthweight/Calving Ease Bull for Simi heifer

Would hooks Broadway be considered a heifer safe bull with that BWT  EPD? For a black simmy heifer bull I still like OLF Odin U5 with a -3. BWT EPD and acc of 0.89 he is a good bet.

    Hays Converter cattle

The simm hereford cross only looks like a hays converter if blavk simmentals are involved.  Right now Fleckvieh hereford bulls are being marketed with traditional hereeford markings: http://canadasbulls.com/bulls/h-2-horned-hereford-x-simmental-hybrid-bulls/ By the way the Hays Converter had...

    Hays Converter cattle

Their are a few left in Alberta and Manitoba.  The breed is a  Holstein Hereford Brown Swiss synthetic in make up and were designed to produce commercial cows out of Angus cows and maintain a black hide. They basically were/are a North American Simmental. The problem for the breed is that just...

    Experimenting with Angus

Most of the bulls talked about here are either spread or calving ease bulls.  If your breeding mature simmy cows I would use a performance power bull on them like Young Dale Xcalibuer 32X: http://www.bjcattlecompany.com/html/xcaliber.html.  This bull is a changer and will had power and...

    Calving ease Char bull

The big problem comparing birth weights is that environmental effect and cow size have big impacts here.  The cooler the climate the bigger the birth weights.  Also bigger cows tend to have bigger calves.  To compensate for this is why EPDs were developed. Charo,  What is your average cow size...

    Calving ease Char bull

HUckelberry  had an actual 89 LB birth weight.  The big problem for him is that we have no calves out of him yet to see if he is actually a calving ease bull or not.  Given a birth weight EPD  PE of -0.3 most of the bulls discussed are more proven and have far lower actual birthweights,  better...
