    low input smokies in Nebraska?

Your last email clarifies things quite a bit.  Since you want to emphasize marbling LT Unlimited ease 9108 isn't a bad bull to use for this trait.  He does have a son at accelerated Easy Pro: http://www.accelgen.com/catalog/semen-beef/014ch05011/english/beef The old ABS bull M6 Gain and grade...

    low input smokies in Nebraska?

Freddy, 25 years ago was 1985.  The Brahma influence was a a 1960's and earlier concern.  By 1985 we had plenty of french influence and cattle graded up from British cows so the Brahma influence was very low by then.  We had plenty of calving ease bulls (purebred and french) around back then...

    low input smokies in Nebraska?

LT Unlimted Ease is an early 1990s calving ease bull.  Nothing is remarkable about him except he was easy calving and put out some good cows.  Generally speaking any of the good Bluegrass sons available such as WR Big Ben  (for calving ease)or WR Wrangler (calving ease and growth) are better...

    VCR Sir Duke 914 Daughter

By all means use the Cigar on her if this couldbe the last chane to flush her. By my estimation you want a calving ease performance bull that will put some guts into them and put out a possible replacement for her.  Sparrow cattle are based on Buddy Cobb  and high percentage French cattle so...

    VCR Sir Duke 914 Daughter

Lots of questions here. Given the fact the 914 is an older bull and the cow I believe have a 1980's pedigree I don't think her EPDs will even be able to represent her performance adequately. what traits are you trying to improve?  How important is calving ease? What do you think of M6 Hi...

    Mr. Firewater calves

A Full french Charolais can trace all its parentage back to original french imports.  No grading up occurred in their pedigrees.  All Fullblood Charolais originate in France. Cattle graded up in other countries generally are 31/32 Charolais to be considered domestic purebreds.  Polled strains of...

    Angus Herd Sire Progression

The more I look the more I like.  Any carcass information on him yet?  Pictures of any commercial calves? Also have you collected him and will you market semen on him?

    Mr. Firewater calves

Something to consider is that both Rawes and Effertz buy back the calves from their bull buyers to feed.  It is part of the reason whay their bull sale averages are so good. If the calves did not feed well I think they would soon do something about it. XBAR, How are the claves from that M^ bull...

    Mr. Firewater calves

All I was talking about was why they weren't getting the growth out of Firewater that they expected.  Growth is not everything functionality counts as well as muscle.for example. If you are looking for an easier fleshing ,more muscled Charolais and don't mind sacrificing some growth then look no...

    Mr. Firewater calves

Firewater is not a high performance bull-not by a longshot.  Just look at his growth EPDs.  He has the lowest YW EPD  of any Genex Charolais bull on offer.  Firewater reminds me of the old early 80's show bull Hannibal BM in that his birth weighte were heavy and growth not exceptional in the...

    Bulls to use on heifers

For Simangus I would look at the Genex bull SDS Graduate for a purebred OLF Odin U5. Both bulls are available ar reasonable prices.  Graduate is on special at $ 15.00 and Odin is around $ 30 and volume deals are available.

    Undecided on a bull

Simmons, That bull looks too young to have any calves on the ground yet.  Has he won any shows or placed?  What are his EPDs like?

what does everybody know or think about Lim-flex cows and heifers

Just watch the cpws they are out of.  If the angus cows and limi bulls are out of stock with good maternal backgrounds no reason to not take the chance given the market today. Generally where was raised a good charolais bulll was the best cross out od these cows. They would top the market .  If...

    Gunsmoke or Mr. Firewater

DO NOT USE FIREWATER ON HEIFERS.  Firewater has lousey calving ease numbers. Plenty of better oprions for a heifer exist ranging from Ledger to Wrangler.  You want a live calf and a healthy heifer. I would also look at the new bull that Genex has  MVY Xplorer 21X.  He has a very low BWT EPD...

    Pleasant Dawn Seal 2nd

The Hatch Family are first rate stockmen and easy to deal with.  If you buy a bull from them count on good service. If you hve a problem with an animal you buy from them they will make it right.  Even though they aren't raising Shorthorns anymore tnye are worth talking to for doing seedstock. ...

    Undecided on a bull

For pictures of the Game Changer bull go to the Big Creek Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bigcreekcharolais Other Charolais bulls that are no brainers such as Firewater, Montezuma or Game On. The new Genex headliner is also worth loking at.  MVY XPLORER 21X was the 2012 CCA BOSS Show...

    Calling all Simmental Folks

Virually all the bulls such as UnO Mas or shear pleasure progeny are calving ease bulls.  Whe you say you live around Creston do you mean Creston, BC? I can think of many bulls that would work great here depending on what you want.  I would want more performance than Uno mas can give. I would...

    Moderate BW bulls???

I forgot to mention I know some steer jockeys that will use big birth weight bulls feeling they give an advantage in the show ring.  They are only calving maybe 30 head at most. You are correct management or the ability to handle big birth weights is a must when using big birth weight bulls. ...

    Moderate BW bulls???

Remember birth weights in Western Canada can be around 15 Lbs higher than in the central and southern U.S.  In my experience most guys in Western Canada with performance based commercial want to have their heifers calve with with weights in a a 90 to 100 LB spread.  Cows having calves up to 110...
