    overdue calving

I wouldn't worry. I have Simbrah cows and it's not uncommon for them to go 11 days overdue. I had a 50 lb bull calf born today that was a week over...kinda surprised me.

    Cows do the darnedest things...

The foreman told us his crew was supposed to rope off the ends...but saying isn't doing. This pipeline runs at the very back of this pasture and they've had it open for awhile. They buried it right after we got the cow out...imagine that. We use this pasture as our maternity ward for mature cows...

Alternate method of gathering cattle...great for laughs!

http://www.youtube.com/embed/NA-ST8nXl4U?rel=0 I might try this method on my next group of heifers!

    Cows do the darnedest things...

I noticed this cow missing yesterday morning. She was due to calve so I figured she had a good hiding spot. This morning I still couldn't find her so I scoured the pasture looking for her and found her in the trench. So I called in the Calvary and got her out! I'm very thankful she didn't go...

    Grinning happily :-)

I recorded 3.20" in south Texas today. That's close to what we've had all year. Happy to hear about others getting much needed rain!

WOODROW - ABC PROMO BULL (revised ad posted)

I like the second picture better. I think it showcases how heavy muscled he is and it looks like his he's holding his head higher. I'm curious about his breeding too. A great bull you have there with lots of potential.

    Low Birth Weight bulls

This is my second year calving out heifers to TNT Dual Focus (a SimAngus bull carried by ABS) and haven't had to touch one yet. Calves have great vigor at birth too.

    Hay Inflation

Late gestation and they start calving in less than a month.

    Hay Inflation

Lucky duck! We finally made a deal on rice hay. It's 8-9% CP so it'll keep the cows going but I'm going to have to supplement the heck out of them. And calving starts in less than a month. Pray for rain!

    Hay Inflation

We can't even make a deal on any hay because the guys that do have hay have enough local customers to not want to mess with the delivery to us. We're looking into cotton hulls and DDG to make it through.
