Any info on these Simmental bulls?

In Dew Time - He has never missed on any cow I've bred him to. He works on a lot of types. Very sound, deep bodied and attractive. My IDT's have great dispositions. I'm kinda wishing I used more of him this past year. Star Power - Definitely adds eye appeal, soundness, muscle and bone. I've...

    Simmi bull Explorer

I have 15 coming in September and October. I've heard mostly good reports. A friend in ND loves his Explorer's, says they're really really nice. Heard a not so great review the other day. Was told the dispositions aren't great, but all that remains to be seen for me.

    CIDR on a heifer?

We use the CIDR protocol on our heifers every year and average 70% conception. We're synching a group of heifers for a neighbor and I had concerns about the sexual maturity of these heifers and so far not so good. Problem is the owner wasn't sure about the DOB on the heifers and they weren't...

The calf looks black to me. I didn't know Mo Better was a carrier of the spotting gene.

I have a fall calving herd so my cows are 4-5 months along. Simmental - In Dew Time, BMR Explorer, WS Beef Maker R13, SAS T101 Sweet Meat SimAngus - GW Premium Beef 021TS, TNT Dual Focus Simbrah - BCC/J7N Vicmar 420

This question goes out to all the Simmental people.

I'm a big fan of In Dew Time. He makes fantastic females and has great male progeny too. Great dispositions on his calves. SAS T101 Sweet Meat - an In Dew Time son that offers more performance while maintaining a nice pattern. He was my heaviest sire group this year at weaning. I used him...

    Texas Fires

I had quite a scare today in south Texas. A pipeline crew is working on our home place and started a grass fire and burned 75 acres. We are so fortunate the wind shifted directions last night otherwise the fire would've been heading towards our houses. Instead it burned towards a county road...

    Malpractice? Advice- Calving loss. .....nightmare

Actually sending a Christmas gift to your vet works out quite well. We sent CAB steaks to our vet and he's more than happy and prompt to answer our questions.

Calves going over due date didn't want to hijack OH Breeders thread

Same here. I'm in south Texas and fall calving works best. They come small (esp out of first calf heifers) and when it comes time to re-breed it's December. I can't even imagine trying to get cows synched and AI'd in this heat...it's be a disaster.

    Malpractice? Advice- Calving loss. .....nightmare

About all you can do in a situation like that is chalk it up to sh*t happens. Otherwise you'll eat yourself up stressing about it. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. At least the cow is ok.

How long to do you have to wait to AI?

My ideal is 60 days. But if I want to move up a cow I use 30 days as my limit. This year I moved up first calf heifers 1 1/2 months synching at 30 days.

    Synchronize Estrus for AIing

Last week was pregnancy testing on the ranch and here's how we came out on the 7 day CO-Synch CIDR Time AI protocol. 54% conceived to the Time AI. (I would've liked a little higher but it was our first time). 77% of the repeats conceived to AI. (Did great on that). 9% open (a low for us, last...

    CIDR's

I was told by someone in the know to use an autoclave to clean them. They get great results from the re-used CIDRs. I haven't tried it myself.

    Help With Mating Decision

I don't think you could go wrong with any of those choices either. I learn towards Steel Force and Dominance. I think Dream Catcher would be ok too. The Fat Butt and Excalibur bulls are newer on the block and haven't seen much progeny out of them or they're too young to have any.

    SAS Sweet Meat

My In Dew Time's have mostly been in the 70s. The highest I've recorded is 98. I'm a big fan of In Dew Time as well, he does a lot of things right but he doesn't add muscling.

    Synchronize Estrus for AIing

The researcher from USDA told me to not use this protocol expecting 70% conception, but it does give better results than the 7-day. He compiled data collected from many trials using the 5 day and with over 2000 cows synched this way there was a 68.2% conception rate. The individual trial results...

    Synchronize Estrus for AIing

From what I understand it is to make sure the cow's system is rid of progestin from the CIDR.

    SAS Sweet Meat

I have some 7 month calves sired by him right now. Overall I was very pleased with the bull and used him heavily again. He is definitely to be used on cows only. Birth weights were in high 70s up to 102, most in the 90s. He definitely adds muscling and body depth to his progeny while maintaining...
