    Blow & Go Shows

I totally agree! At our state fair you will see a fitter on each leg plus one on the body and/or head. And there is not an exhibitor anywhere near the calf. It drives me nuts. Fitters are flown in from out west. Our show is judged basically on hair. It has been years since I have even seen a...

    2015 calves we have had

Really like this last heifer you have posted and the steel whiskey heifer. And also the steer. Looks like you have nice calves to look forward to raising (clapping)

    Your Opinion Please........

I agree with rackranch. I think she has good bone and hair from that picture. But can't tell much else about her.

    Houston livestock show

I agree. I show in GA. The Georgia National Fair has around 1000 head of cattle shown every year. The Grand prize for the Grand Champion steer is $5000. So I think that these kids would be more than pleased with a cut of $75,000. Texas shows are considered "big time" for most that show out here...

    Bedding in show heifer barn

I show goats along with cattle. In the stall where my goats stay I have a rubber horse mat laid with shaving on top. The mat stays decently clean. But goats unlike cattle don't get their stall picked out several times a day because their manure is too small. I think a mat would work fine for the...

Best Care for Hair In summer heat

I have two steers with fantastic hair quality. I was wondering if anyone knew what the best way was to keep their hair in great shape in such a hot summer. I normally get calves later on and have never had to deal with this problem. As of right now they are rinsed everyday. Then blown dry and I...

Meanings of terms - Neeed Help! Updated List

I think that this is more associated in hogs, but I have heard it mentioned in cattle before.

Question on feeding a show steer

I have a full shorthorn steer and currently I am not using any supplements. I think you have to feed according to what he needs. If you need hair you could feed supplements for that such as shag in a bag. If you need better/improvement in structure you could try moorflex or similar things. Or if...

    All AboardXPoint Taken heifer.

At such a young age it is hard to tell much, but she appears to be level topped and big boned. And she has great hair! (clapping)

    Opinions welcome. Angus show heifer

I love her depth of rib and levelness over her top. She is very clean in her front end and appears to stand correctly on good feet and legs. If you were to show her as a market heifer I might muscle her up a tad through her rear 1/3. But she is a nice looking female ;)

    Bracing too hard???

I have been showing for 11 years and bracing is a new trend. Goats were never braced before but have all of a sudden started because people think it makes their tops "pop". As far as the bracing too hard goes, there is a way to fix it however it can be tricky. The harder you push on the goat...

    Showing lambs

If your niece is comfortable without the halter I would suggest going without it. I show in the southeast(Georgia,Tennessee, Alabama) and in this area using a halter is a no no. However if it makes her uncomfortable to the point where she feels like she is no longer in control then I would just...

Looking for opinions on my Lambs..

I would have to agree. Look like you have two lambs with nice builds. However I would suggest setting their rear legs differently. Good luck to you ;)

    Best method to removing stains

You could try a bluing shampoo for cattle. I show shorthorns ( some tend to have lots of white which gets dirty easily). The bluing shampoo seems to work.

    You be the judge

Well in my opinion both are nice in different ways. I like the second heifer personally being that she is cleaner in her front, doesn't cut in her flank like the first heifer, she is also more feminine. That being said, she is narrower in her pins and doesn't have the bold spring of rib from...
