    Who's your favorite?

I 2nd Bismarck.  I am sure there are other bulls that will just as well.  I have a BismarckXChopper heifer that is due to calve in about a week to ten days and if the snow hadn't melted off where we are then her belly would be dragging right about now.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been as much talk about the display bulls this year. Maybe it's an indication of the bad weather or people aren't as impressed. From the video I posted, I like "Moxie" the most.

    2017 Denver Display Bulls

There are several videos that have been posted on Facebook on the bulls in the yards. Here is one of them. The video is 15 minutes. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1232267796865297&id=181419475283473

    What would you do?

If it were me, I would see if the breeder would make it right. If not, I'd find out from a vet if the calf is still alive. If the calf is still alive I would get a good estimate on the due date to see if the pregnancy is close enough to induce labor. I don't know how cold it is where you are but...

A good read on birth weights

If an actual BW had to be turned into an association, I could see some bull producers stretching the truth.  I believe a lot already do.  When has anyone ever seen a BW on a promoted bull that was 100+ and how many calves has anyone had out of certain bulls that more often than they should go...

A good read on birth weights

Our one heifer, we're giving her a chance to see what she'll do. We have bred her dam to some real cow killers and the resulting calves come out 70-80lbs and go on to sell well and do well in the show ring.

A good read on birth weights

I believe the point of the article is each individual breeder must decide what is an acceptable BW to them and what is acceptable to each operation's replacement heifers. Of our replacement heifers, our biggest one could physically handle a bigger birthweight by looking at her body type in...

    Online Sales

I don't mind that there are so many online sales. The good ones will sell and the bad ones won't. With prices down, a few more kids might get to show a steer this year than last year. I also think a lot of the less desirable calves would have gone to the salebarn if this was last year. I...

Online auctions - the fine print

Yep. I understand both sides of the coin. With heifers, we've had the mindset that if they don't bring a certain price then they'll be worth more to us as a cow. Our kids aren't old enough to show yet. Steers on the other hand, if we don't get them sold then what are we going to do with them. I...

Even better than I thought he'd ever be.

What to breed these shorthorns too?

I have seen quite a few Young Money calves. To me, he works best on medium framed power cows. I have seen him used on larger framed power cows and they get huge. I've never seen an unsound one and all have a pretty good front. I think he makes great steers and heifers too. That's all can add
