    Soundest club calf bull

I literally laughed right out loud on that one. (lol)

What Simmental Heifer Bull to use on Chopper x Angus Heifers?

In Dew Time has a CE EPD in the top 3% of the breed at a .95 accuracy.  That's pretty darn high calving ease and highly, highly proven.

    Buying a Semen Tank

Buy a new tank, not a used one.  Get on a regular LN2 fill schedule but check the level yourself routinely.

    Round balers

no, I know, that's a fair point and trust me I've looked into that. In fact, that's what I've done the last few years and my whole life Dad hired a custom baler. In the local area where I'm at now there are darn few guys willing to do custom work and darn fewer that'll do small fields, come when...

    Round balers

Anyone have a good suggestion on brand/model of used round baler to buy?  I will run it with a JD 4030 (about 100 hp) and make 100-200 bales per year of grass/alfalfa/clover mix hay.  May make corn stalk bales someday if I find the right arrangement or buy more land, but am not currently.  I'm...

    Cost of recips

This fall I paid $1600 for a 75 day pregnancy plus all implant expenses and I supplied the eggs.  Cows are a little small and were thinner than I like them when I got them.  He got 2 out of 5 to stick (small numbers and a drought summer so I can't really complain).  I think you get what you pay...

    Red Angus epds

Calving Ease Direct and Calving Ease Maternal are not on the same base yet.  All other traits are.

    The Unsub

I had three last year (from three units of semen I might add).  Saw a handful in another herd, so not a huge sample but here's my take.  I had two heifers one steer, was hoping for the other way around.  Steer was damn stout with some chrome.  I thought he was plenty straight but no one seemed...

    Looking for a Heifer!

I'll vouch for RCR, he's a good guy- straight shooter and knows cattle.  Stu has plenty of connections in the Red Angus breed and could certainly find what you're looking for.

    Predator

The one steer was from a Witch Dr. cow and the other an Ali daughter.  One or the other was pretty darn big at birth.  He had others, but I can only recall those two since I had them in my sale.  Heavily Maine influenced cow herd if that helps you gauge anything.  FWIW, he and I agreed he needs...

    Predator

A friend of mine used the bull last year and his two top steers (in my opinion) were Predators.  Calving ease though?----NO.

    Strictly Business

They do make good cows, but you have to sort on them a little.  Some get big (no, huge) and raw boned.  The good ones are very productive cows.

Important features on a stock trailer

I just bought a new trailer.  Here's my list: I usually put tack in front compartment and cattle in back when going to a show so I wanted an escape door on the curbside.  Makes changing a tire much safer. Plexiglass.  Too cold up here not to have it. running boards.  I wanted these, but...

% RED ANGUS SHOW AT IOWA STATE FAIR

she is a nice heifer, and my point absolutely was not to suggest otherwise.  But using her only as an example- you have a % Red Angus show, a % Simmental show and a crossbred show- all of which she'd be eligible for.  How does one decide where to show her? What about a % anything makes them...

% RED ANGUS SHOW AT IOWA STATE FAIR

sure they are, and the heifer you posted is proof.  Put them in the crossbreed class where they belong.
  16. B

% RED ANGUS SHOW AT IOWA STATE FAIR

wouldn't it be better to teach the junior showpeople how to select and raise cattle that they can use in their herds after they are no longer eligible for the show?

% RED ANGUS SHOW AT IOWA STATE FAIR

The good news is real Red Angus breeders will avoid this foolishness and stick to breeding cattle with functional traits.

Using both sexed and conventional semen on a flush ?

you'd be wasting your money because the conventional straw of semen has about 15 times as many sperm cells (both X and Y) as the sexed straw.  The conventional straw would overwhelm the sexed straw just by shear number of cells.
