heat detect and timed ai question

if a cow is in heat she'll ovulate (what the cystorellin does) so no real need to give a shot at the time of breeding if the cow was in heat.  It's not bad insurance though for $2/shot. If you breed a cow, then she's done don't continue the protocol with her.

thoughts on q dog and star power and womanizer

I don't think any worse than any of the other bulls we used.  It's not something I protect them for when mating.

thoughts on q dog and star power and womanizer

I've used Qdog for 3 or 4 years now.  Here he adds hair and muscle, moderates frame.  Never had one that wasn't sound and never had one I couldn't sell. Had one Star Power, but won't comment based on only one.

2011 truck - gas or diesel??

I have a Chevy with push button 4X4, so this might sound dumb but with the Ford and their manual lockout hubs do you have to stop, get out and lock in the hubs?

What Breed Makes the best Beef?

I let it seed out last summer so we'll see what it does this year.  I'm still going to put some clover in there though.  My ground does well with a higher legume content.

What Breed Makes the best Beef?

I've got about 15 acres of Sucra seed I interseeded (no till) into grass pastures.  I'll be going over it again with red clover this spring.  I don't think I'd waste the money on it again.  Yield isn't much.  Maybe in a direct seeding, but wouldn't do it again interseeded.

How popular are Speckle Park cattle

They may be great cattle, but we have what we need in the current gene pool.  It just needs to be used in a breeding program with the right goals and discipline.

    Can someone answer this question?

GoWyo, I got a good chuckle out of your comment, very true. I think we've bred a good portion of the "survival strategies" out of our cattle.

    bull called Zima

There was an old red Simmental bull named Zima.  Big birth weights were his legacy. Seems like his daughters worked well though.

    Kroupas' Sweetheart Sale

so we breed cows that are extreme in a trait to bulls that are the opposite extreme and expect the offspring to be ideal.  ::) Why not simply demand that our bulls AND cows be decent footed?  Maybe then club calves could have something besides a negative image amongst others in the industry.

    Kroupas' Sweetheart Sale

My random thoughts after reading: Sensationalism sells. I have to admit, I read it cover to cover. I wish someone would have proofed it a bit.  The grammar is very poor. It's pretty crude, but the cattle look good. what the heck does "coon footed" mean?  My judging coach never taught me that...
