    Worst Winter

Yes, it is -56 F today here with the windchill. Thank goodness we are nearly done calving and the girls have chosen this week to take a break from giving us any new ones!! BRRRRRR....

How about the top Hereford sire?

Yeah, CAB, I LOVE that steer!

How about the top Hereford sire?

The only thing not Hereford in these ones is a bit of Perfection five or six generations back. Ooops, there I said it...banned from the Hereford fraternity!!! Don't worry, they aren't registered. Speaking of Simmi, I wonder if I would still get some extra white!!!

How about the top Hereford sire?

Yeah, we have a 'Hereford Influenced' class here at our major summer steer show, so that's where the red baldie would be going. But there's always a few 'Hereford' steers show whose red color is not quite Hereford  ;) We might not have had as good a luck as you then  ;) Also, I can't help but...

How about the top Hereford sire?

I have always wanted to try Idaho Spud or Tiger (both from Kris Black) for Hereford steers as I think that would turn out nicely. I wouldn't say Remitall bulls would sire good steers. They might not be tidy enough in the front. I think their specialty is more the breeding cattle arena as far as...

Denver Pictures; Here's some of my Gallery! Please Add your own NWSS Pictures!

RSC, I LOVE that front angle picture of Dr. Business being fitted up. Gorgeous! I have been cleaning photos for the official stock show photographer this week. It has been allowing me to live vicariously through all the cool images, but boy, I sure miss actually being there! Your pics make me...

    Denver bulls

JSchroeder, Did you get footage of a bull called Meatman bred by Sullivans? Some friends of mine bought him and were supposed to take him to Denver before he made the trek north. Just curious... Thanks for the videos! They're great!

    CANT GAIN ANY WEIGHT???

50 pounds is ALOT of feed, IMHO. If you must feed that much, be careful. It is possible to burn out their stomachs with too much feed, after which they will never put weight on easily again.

Buying Bull through the Auction Mart

Where to start? 1. It is terrible that a person in your area is selling lower quality bulls without a guarantee, but suggesting they were lower quality because they weren't papered is absurd. Many outfits sell un-papered bulls that are great and stand behind them 100%. Having a registration...

    ** SHORTHORN SEMEN SALE **

Sounds good, NHR. If you are going to Fort Worth this year and are still there for the open show, his full sister, Vanity (the white heifer pictured in the original post) will hopefully be there, so go have a look!

    Cloned Beef

Agriculture: The only industry where we produce a product and then try to create a market...instead of producing what the already existing market demands.

And since its now over, anyone know how it went?

    Unique Shorthorn Websites

This is true. But  I could never in a million years get bulls that looked like that sold out of the pen to commercial cattlemen, no matter what their production records or carcass stats were. (And especially not for $30,000. At least one of those herds is not making all their money in the...

    Turbo Fans

I don't know if this would help you or not...but we have our turbo fans rigged up so that they fit on a cart. They are completely transportable and all one has to do to set them up is wheel them over behind the calf and plug them in. This might be something that would work nicely in your...

AI Sires- Dial up BEWARE a BUNCH of pictures

I always think that bulls look way better out with the cows than they do in a stud. They get fed way more hot feed than a mature bull needs (shouldn't he be able to get by on little more than good quality hay?), and get no exercise. It doesn't take long for them to look about as stale as can be...

    ** SHORTHORN SEMEN SALE **

Canasta has two crops of calves on the ground and has so far been siring calves in the 90 - 100 pound range. The bull himself had a 104 pound birthweight, (which is about the normal weight for his mother's calves, no matter who she is bred to). We have had a few people use him on heifers with no...

    Shorthorn

My grandpa used to call Longhorns cow-fresheners...not in a good way! AJ, I'd also have to disagree with you on assuming anything but a Longhorn or a Red Angus will cause a visit from the vet. From experience...Our first calf heifers (Shorthorns, Polled Herefords, and crosses of the two breeds)...

    Shorthorn

I think, if I were you, I would go back on her with a high-percentage Maine for the first year. She's already got a pretty good mix of breeds in there, adding Shorthorn to the mix might add a little bit too much unpredictability, especially if you decide to go clubby. Other breeders on here...

    Ft Worth Fitter Needed

Since you're going, NHR, where does one find results for the Junior and Open shows? I want to keep an eye on how the show goes, but I don't know where to find the results...or pictures!
