    Name my future herd bull

On the farm, I would call him Ring, based upon the ring around his nose.

    breaking donkey?

Used one 45 years ago as a kid.    It got pretty brutal at times. Usually the donkey would stick its butt in the calf's ear and just turn when the calf acted up.  Our donkey had to be muzzled after biting off an ear and an eye on a couple of calves. He learned to bite despite a chicken wire...

what to breed angus cow to

I like her structure but she lacks muscling that might make for a good clubby steer. I'm thinking Walks Alone or the Shorthorn bulls Uncle or Proud Jazz for a nice Shorthorn Plus

    What bulls should I use???

Hot bulls I have noticed are MAB, Hi Ho Silver, Yellow Jacket, Monopoly and lots of others. Seeking heifers or steers? I'll be the first to ask for pix to better plan matings. Carrier status on your cows?  That should rule out many bulls if the cows are carriers. I would keep the Angus...

    Been Hiding this one...

I truly hope I am wrong.  I had a similar heifer this year that I really like, but was not as good as I thought. I think you may be disappointed in her showing results. Though I don't know age or breeding- I appreciate her look from the side.  She profiles nicely. I like her bone and leg.  I...

Cow Having Hard Time with Hot Weather

I just culled a cow with similar symptoms. She had three steers that did not show symptoms. Two heifers have shown them. I thought I might find her dead at times, but she always raised the heaviest calf and bred right back. Finally culled her due to a nerve injury. Are you on fescue pasture? ...

Anybody in Central Illinois do embryo implantation service?

I am looking for a person in Central Illinois to put embryos in my cows beginning April, 2017. I know there would be good demand if someone was skilled and available. Thank you!

2 year old Red Galloway bull

    More bulls I have used.

2 year old Red Galloway bull

I think he is a good quality bull.  He will not get much respect or credence on a show cattle site. I agree that he had a Galloway head, but would expect a little more hair in the ears. I think you will make some real good females. Here is our herd bull to evaluate. Good luck to you!

    Show Cattle Ethics

The seller has no ethical obligation to "make it right" with the owner, especially many months after the calf has been handled and fed by the new owner. I agree the seller would likely do what they can to help the child.  Word of that would go a long way toward selling cattle in the future. ...

    Murray Grey genetics

This calf is out of a 3/4 MG cow and Sim bull. He stayed very moderate.  Grew ok. Won a small show.

    Excited about this heifer!

She looks like a real keeper.  I would turn her in my pasture, even up here in Illinois. I know next to nothing about these cattle and southern shows in general, but I'd sure breed her first time for a live calf. If you feel she is good enough, you could flush her to a clubby bull for others...

    Calf Cool Room

'Packing six inches of R30 into a 4 inch wall'(probably 3 1/2") decreases the efficiency of the insulation by over 50%.  I hope you used vapor barriers and waterproof interior panels so the insulation does not get wet.  It is worthless then and will harbor mold. 12-15" of insulation on the...

Best Angus bull for club calves

Thank you all- The cow comes down from Musgrave breeding and was clubby in her own right as a heifer.  Did not get to show her due to warts I could not stay ahead of. Cutting off warts is not something I enjoy. She had a Beltie steer calf last year that is very clubby in appearance.  She is...

Best Angus bull for club calves

I would appreciate your input on the best Angus bulls for purebred club calves. I'd like to breed this cow for a good steer calf. Thank you-

    Please evaluate this slick steer.

We show at Morgan County, FFA show in Carrollton we usually show at a regional Beltie show in Pecatonica, and the State Fair. The show at Pecatonica is usually a good show.  It is about 25 miles west of Rockford and scheduled for July 2 this year.  Usually cattle from 5-7 states. The World...

    Please evaluate this slick steer.

Thank you sir. A good scrubbing on his knees and other discolored areas will help too. I will likely slick him for our shows here in Illinois. It will generate some discussion. We'll have other purebred Belties in the string, one of which I don't plan to clip until State Fair.  Once again to...

    Please evaluate this slick steer.

I slicked off a Beltie x Angus steer this morning and would welcome your observations. He weighs about 1000 today, gaining about 4 pounds a day over last 75 days.  He has about 75 days remaining before the show. Sorry I did not wash him before pix and he is not standing just right.  Due to my...

    Hair product???

Melatonin implants will help, but you are probably out of luck trying to grow hair on a Gert/Angus if each side is purebred. Darker the better.

Slick cattle and haired cattle pix

Thanks for the pictures/ The apricot steer is a muscled beast!  I can see how he would shine as a slick steer.  It shows off his muscling. How did the smoke steer get sifted?  He looks good with hair or without hair. Congrats to both families. Just for grins, I am thinking about slicking...
