Tested a 16 moth old bull recently that had a high % of sperm cells with bent tails and therefore did not pass the BSE. Seeking info on cause of the problem. Vet thought he just needed more time and might need less feed. Anything nutritionally (vitamin/mineral) can be done to help the...

    Beltie heifers

We are not show crazy so we don't feed the heifers very hard.  (I am sure most of you could do a better job feeding them than I can for the show ring.) Belties are primarily grass animals and many breeders wait to calve at three years of age. We grow our heifers and calve at 22-26 months...

    Wobbly calf

Have a 10 day old Angus X Charolais calf that is wobbly on his rear legs for about a minute after getting up.  Fell down this morning, made several wobbly steps and after about 100 feet seemed normal. Easy birth.  Calf was up and vigorous at birth.    Nurses well.  Seems to be growing OK...

Seeking info on using an 11 day Lute protocol (2 shots, 11 days apart and breed on visual heat about three days later. I have a cow I would like to breed Angus that may be bred to another bull.  Long story short< I had to wait about a month on the Angus semen and missed the time for another...

    Blow & Go Shows

I mean no disrespect to anyone who practices different management or wants to raise their children or cattle differently than I do.    You do your thing, I'll do mine. I totally agree that kids and their families should do their own fitting.  I call BS that 'they need to be able to watch...

    Mr. Firewater calves

I bought semen with BW and CE numbers in the acceptable range.  I believe BW has gone up and CE numbers are not shown on most recent EPD data from the distributor.      I believe I read a thread where some folks were having some issues so I was pleasantly surprised to find a smaller calf...

    Mr. Firewater calves

Had a Mr. Firewater X Angus calf on Monday and was surprised by its small size.    The bull calf was small headed, slender and about 70 pounds.  He was very vigorous at birth.  Dark gray with black nose and eyelashes.  Based upon EPD data, I had expected a blocky 90 pound calf out of this...

Testing embryos for Th and Pha

Some folks can't help but want to breed or buy carrier animals for the perceived show ring benefits, and many carrier females are bred to carrier bulls. My thought process was to avoid the possibility of losing 1/4 of your calf crop by mating known carriers.      I know some folks that see it...
