One of the most "creative" leg builders I have seen used would be Silly String. Believe it or not, it didn't  look as goofy as I thought it was going to!

50 degrees should be just fine, We wash our calves up here often times well below freezing. Just was them quickly and get them dry ASAP and you will be fine.

What was the avearge?

As a kid growing up our cow herd  was mostly red, but we did always end up with some whites and roans. Touch wood, I have never had a white heifer not breed before, although I have had a few solid red ones that wouldn't get in calf. (pop)

It got down to 22 degrees F here last night which is about the last thing we needed, this hard frost is going to ruin a lot of immature crops. The cool wet weather has been slow to bring crops around to ripening. It's a pretty solemn day around here. :'(
