Saying a programme in question has some negative connotations which I don't think is right. Yes an animal may or may not be passing on an issue but I don't think the programme would be in question. In that case there would be a lot of animals that trace back to these ancestors in many herds, are...

Ok the expression in the heterozygous animal was what I was wondering. Both bulls are trait leaders for EMA and have quite expressive Muscle patterns. Belmore Jackaroo also goes back to Big Mac through Shadybrook Scotty.  I have no semen of either bull left so testing a son with both bulls in...

    Mandalong Super Flag

I have had a couple show up in the past 5 or 6 years that I would be confident they had it but I did not test just culled. How does the gene work, is it a recessive like TH or DS where it doesn't always show the phenotype? Mine have contained Both Belmore Jackaroo and Eionmoor Ideal close in...

Pasture pics of bull calves out of two year olds.

A couple of really nice calves there. Like the depth and softness of the white but sure some will like the length of the roan.  Looks like the embryos that resulted in Lord Belmore could be on the best deal tread. Used Kookaburra selectively over 4 white and roan cows hoping for a roan bull to...

Good looking cows in great condition. Its interesting how different Leroy's numbers are in Australia. Below average birthweight and growth figures, Carcass data is in the same ballpark...

    Rising sun

Not sure your comparing apples with apples here. He is an Australian bull and although adjusted weights are used for EBV's they aren't really published. I wouldn't know the adjusted weight of any bull I've produced in the last 10 years. This is probably the raw weaning weight which could be...

    Shorthorn weaning weights.

Isn't this the basis for the EPD system. Trying to give you a comparison between genetics with environment and management removed.

Shorthorn sire test and progeny test at Univ of Ill.

Didn't see you had started a new tread. Its not just the amount of data its the quality as well. In many herds possibly not yours I see this as a major issue. Small contempory groups with no variation in genetics or data value to make comparisons against. I think that is where the advantage...

Its not just the amount of data its the quality as well. In many herds possibly not yours I see this as a major issue. Small contempory groups with no variation in genetics or data value to make comparisons against. I think that is where the advantage would be. The cost is in line with progeny...

    New Herdsire

A number of sheep breeders have used this approach here for many years where from within the group they select a small number of sires that will be used over all the studs to improve linkages and improve the accuracy of any data collected. http://www.wrig.co.nz/

What do the females of some of these animals look like. Do female bison really show the reverse wedge.

    Shorthorn 2 yeqr old sire

I see them as being very similar in Ebv's. Acceptable BWT, strong growth, good EMA and positive fats but got there in a different way one with length one with depth. Finding the genotype that matches your phenotype is the challenge . There are as many cattle with great numbers that look awful...

    Shorthorn 2 yeqr old sire

    B. Unique was purchased by Malton Shorthorns, Spencer Family shorthorns from Australia and Hamish Brown from New Zealand. The Royalla bull has pretty good ebv data and a pedigree they were obviously keen on but I haven't seen a photo of him I liked yet.

    Shorthorn 2 yeqr old sire

Is age of puberty more related to % of mature weight or scrotal size. Compared to the other british breed bulls here we are still quite a bit smaller. Not sure the best way to fix a problem is to use the extreme in the other direction. He's still a bull with a lot of positives. From what I have...

    Shorthorn 2 yeqr old sire

980kg and a scrotal size of 35.5cm. Its hard to find one with no holes.

    Shorthorn 2 yeqr old sire

He looks good. I'd also note by the manure on his butt, he's eating good stuff. They don't feed grain down under right? So what's giving his manure the grain looking color? Just curious. I'd use that bull in a heartbeat. All the bulls in this sale would be supplemented grain and some of them a...

What are your thoughts on this bull he is in the Dubbo sale in a couple of weeks. http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2928&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&11=515C52
