    Herd bulls for 2016

28c dam looks great, I remember only seeing a handful of roan cows at crooked post and they were all very good cows and the stockman bull was as good as any Jackaroo son I had seen. My comments about 2109 are what I saw in our environment and production system which I think does put different...

    Herd bulls for 2016

[B. Jackaroo Z109 has the best EMA figures in Australia and is a son of Shadybrook Scotty 83K, bred right under your noses! I have used, and collected, what I believe to be the best son I bred in my herd. W. Goldmine 2109 has always been of great interest to me and is unavailable in South...

JDMC ROYAL COMMANDO 3Y Discussing pedigrees

I'm not sure there would have been any transfer of data between Australia and America in the old system because there wouldn't have been strong enough links between the two populations. New Zealand and Australia are run together but the UK are separate. Although they are using the same data to...

JDMC ROYAL COMMANDO 3Y Discussing pedigrees

At the moment his accuracies are quite low, why do the epd's not follow the sire and dams more closely. I would have thought mid parent should be the start point and as more information comes in adjust accordingly. Introducing them at the top of the breed seems misleading to me.

    For Mark Tennenbaum

I guess we have the advantage of being able to grow all our bulls out as a group and killing the culls for the same or sometimes more than fat steers to be made into burgers for you guys up there.

    For Mark Tennenbaum

Thought that might have been the case regarding scanning data. How is the ASA feedout done. In the Australasian ebv system contempary groups are built at birth and animals can be removed from a group but never join a group, so if they are groups of steers coming together from different breeders...

    For Mark Tennenbaum

Not trying to knock the bull quite like the look of them all but how have those numbers been calculated. Am I right in saying he hasn't had carcass data submitted or any of his sires progeny. The accuracy of the carcass data is very low. Do you think his REA will be in the top 15% as it is now...

Very good set of heifers okotoks. I think programs like this are vital for improving the accuracy of the epd's. The durham project in Australia did a great job for shorthorns there and has only now been copied by a number of other breeds including angus. They are currently looking for...

    Shorthorn herd bull

Haven't sorted up all the cows yet but have put him with some girls to keep him happy. He is about 26mth old.

    Duncraggan

He is a bull we brought this year. Still really like him, very good in areas we want to improve with out costing us in other areas but time will tell. Is about to go out with cows for the first time in a couple of weeks will try and take some photos then.

    Shorthorn Genetic Problems

It seems that every day that passes is a day closer to the next genetic defect in angus or any other breed. What happens if the next one does have the positive look or some commercial value like increased feed efficiency or something. You are able to hold your own herd to a higher standard...

Favorite calves of yours this year

Some top calves there. Couple of powerful calves the two light roans with their heads down.

    Heifer pasture photos

Your heifers and bull are looking great. In the photo of the red heifer who is the red behind her. You should have some interesting calves in 9 months time (clapping)

    Opinions needed on sale bulls

Maybe the photos are deceiving but I would have thought the first bull had more fat cover and the third bull more depth and volume so would pick between those those two. All good bulls. Are most bulls marketed as 3 year olds in SA. Have you got a photo of Tukulu Ladysmaid

    Shorthorn herd bull

Thanks for commenting Xbar and Librarian. The Rungahiwi herd was dispersed over 10 years ago, I wouldn't think there would be many photos online. His Dam is a major reason we were interested in him. She was Alan Parks favourite cow in the Corsock herd who had only had heifers and has retained...

    Shorthorn herd bull

Thanks for commenting. Been to a few sales since and still think we got the right bull for what we want which is good. The annoying thing about cattle breeding is its such a long time to get calves then get them into production to actually know if you have anything.

    Shorthorn herd bull

No one really does frame scores here so probably not that accurate but I would guess around a 6. Would hope his females will mature at about 1450

    Shorthorn herd bull

Bull selling season is getting underway down here. We just brought this guy, think he will add a few things we are looking for and maybe a couple of things just to watch. Appreciate  any comments on what you see.
