Shorthorns role in the cattle industry

I wonder after 20 years of staying true to this selection what they would look like. Your not selecting for low growth but with no selection for growth how far off something like the Lowline Angus deal would you be or Galloway but some of them might have more growth than I imagine. Maybe a...

“New” North American Shorthorn Genetic Evaluation

If it encourages more people into WHR will be a real benefit. The numbers out can only be as good as the data going in. Maintaining contempory groups with strong linkages for comparison make a big difference. I think a lot of people don't realise they are hurting the epd's of there better bulls...

    Meat colour

Its in the rules that they have to have nose clips, Think its probably because they are worried about how much work has been put into the steers and a large number of the competitors have done very little showing or even work with animals. The group I work with are at the start of an entry level...

    Meat colour

More Grain = darker meat ?? The steers where about 19mths Something at processing could be the problem. Steers would have been from all over the country with different diets and genetics so was surprised so many came up light coloured.

    Meat colour

We entered some steers in a hoof and hook competition which we did well on the hoof but missed on the hook. Largely because our meat colour was to light, scoring 0 out of 10 from a total of 54 points which pretty much eliminates them. Dark meat colour scores 5 out of 10. All six of our steers...

    Shorthorn Bull Opinions

The breeders like this bull as well. We breed the sire and the Wagman line isn't one we would go back to, we had to many issues with temprement  and eyes had no hooding. The sire himself seemed fine until after the sale when he was left at home by himself for a while and started to play up and I...
