Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

Hadn't thought of manipulating a whole sire group which i guess would work, was more thinking of an individual where it would be buffered by the pedigree info. I'm not sure only recording a couple of your top calves helps their numbers at all, it could actually hurt them. If you only record your...

Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

Would it be easier and more of a worry to manipulate actuals than EPD's Are EPD's just an easy target when the performance of an animal disapoints. Do EPD's have a minimum accuracy or must data be recorded for that trait  before they will be published. The most important part of an index is that...

Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

My understanding of EBV's, that i presume are calculated the same as EPD's, is that they are calculated from the comparison of the variation within a group and between linked groups. So in  a group of 100% unassisted births there is no variation to compare so will not be used in analysis. The...

An interesting Shorthorn bull in Ireland

Mature cow weights are poorly recorded but for Australian shorthorns the max was 2420 with an average of 1300. If i'm reading the table right thats from the start of the durham project

So how do you select your calving ease bulls?

A combination of ebv's and what i think is a suitable structure. I think we are lucky to have the durham reasearch herd where every calf from all the sires has been fully recorded. Using a couple of these bulls has a big affect on the numbers in our herd to where i think they match what i see...

Hi Everyone. Hope that some of you are starting to plan your trip to the 2013 world conference in New Zealand.
