Best Charolais Bull to Add Depth

Mark, I appreciate the responses.  I really like the looks of the Substance bull.  We had tossed around Game Changer as they would keep her relatively outcross, and had also tossed around Firewater or a son as they seem to be winning everything.  The Firepower bull is one I hadn't seen before...

Best Charolais Bull to Add Depth

I appreciate the replies so far.  I will attach a couple pictures, the first is of the cow we're trying to decide on, she is about 75 days post calving in the picture.  The other picture is her Jesse James daughter from this year.

Best Charolais Bull to Add Depth

The cow is a Time Bandit X Dakota Wind (Wyoming Wind) bred female.  Reg. #  F1181925 I would like to increase depth, performance wise, so far, she has been good, structurally sound, milks well, clean through the front, good size bone. Would prefer heifers out of the mating, trying to find...

Best Charolais Bull to Add Depth

I have a charolais cow, plenty stylish, maybe a tick large framed, looking for a purebred bull to moderate just a touch, and add some depth.  Used Jesse James last year, got a very nice heifer calf, but like mama could use a little more depth.  Hoping for a heifer that we can show.

    One shot Lutalyse

That was my inclination, but it did get me wondering.

    One shot Lutalyse

Had another producer say you are not supposed to breed on the first heat cycle after doing the single shot Lutalyse.  What would be the reasoning?  I'm having trouble seeing how it's ok to breed after lute during the multi-day protocols, but not after the single shot?

    Blood testing recips

In theory that should work, however, we have done the blood test before on cattle that were AI'ed and bull turned in 18 days later.  We blood tested at 30 days, and had quite a few come back as pregnant, that had been bred by the bull.  They couldn't have been more than 8-10 days bred.  I think...

Black oil sunflower seed as supplement

Is she feeding whole kernels, shell and all, or the mash after they have been crushed?  There is an oil sunflower crush plant not far from here, actually closer to AJ, that I think would sell the mash after the crushing process has been completed.  I would think it would make a pretty good feed...

    Foundation Simmental

Am I reading the rules right that a heifer must be 50% Simmental to show in the foundation classes?  Do simmentals register to 25%?  If they do, could a 3/8 heifer still show in the AOB classes?

What to use on First Calf Heifers

We have been impressed with our Jesse James calves, decent bone for a heifer bull, good thickness, excellent hair, moderated some, just worked well.  We have not been impressed with I-67.  Didn't have one that we didn't have to pull, from 90-120 pounds.

how many are open after stalks??

With the low number of head we've got, it's hard to say for sure what percent.  Some years we will see one slip between pregs and coming off stalks, usually we don't see any.  Keep in mind however, we are a very low sample set.  Our biggest issue with the cornstalks is most of the ones we rent...

how many are open after stalks??

I would think it would be more of a higher lignin, push for better agronomics deal than a Bt deal.  In theory, the Bt could effect the rumen microbes, but not sure, since the proteins are specific to insects.  Most of the information provided in side by side type trials is anecdotal:  "It seemed...

    When is it considered overkill?

We frequently equate a county fair to a local wrestling tournament.  I have refereed little kids/federated/not sure what everyone calls it, for a few years and have noticed something.  The 6 and under parents take it way more serious than the older kids, especially at the every Saturday...

    When is it considered overkill?

Yes I agree you should be very proud of your kids when they win and bragging is quite alright. I guess my problem all boils down to seeing someone tell everyone that at least their kid won as if there was no other option. Win at all costs! Also having the kid decline a handshake after the kid...

    Denver '15 bulls

I would second that with the addition of Man of the Year.  Granted, I didn't get a great look at all of them as a wife and three little girls are not the best company to really study the bulls.

    Unstoppable vs General Lee

On the limited amount of General Lee's we had, he added a ton of bone/power, maybe added a little hair, but we lost some structure on the front.  Looking at Gen Lee, he's got a pretty big shoulder, and that's what he put into our calf out of a really flat shouldered female.

    GO BUCKS!!

I thought TCU should have been in over Ohio State, but now realize they should have been in over one of the other schools.  Alabama and Florida showed how much of a bias they receive from the media outlets.

Looking for a ride from Green Valley

Curious if anyone's bringing anything from northern Nebraska (Green Valley in Atkinson) closer to NW Kansas.

Do you know who these guys are? I thought this was a very neat graphic

Right behind Gregg is Jeff Stump with Fischer's, Stumpy on here.  He is leading their Deception bull.
