    COMMON CENT$ BULL SALE

That lot 18 bull is really neat.  We leased K-Kim Payton for a couple years, got some killer heifers out of him.  Never got a bull calf near that stout, although my brother did show a Payton steer to Reserve Shorthon Steer at our state fair a few years ago.

    New cattle regulation for Colorado

You are supposed to have health papers for any animals crossing state lines.

Looks like we have a predator in our midst!!

Officially DWP denies the existence of big cats in NW Kansas, however, two years ago we sold a horse that was attacked in the new owners barnyard.  It was killed and torn in two.  There were big cat tracks and the local DWP agent said it was a mountain lion.  I saw the carcass and tracks, I've...

Really people, get a life (Not cattle related)

While I agree that complaining does not show the reason for the season, if UPS and Fedex thought they could not deliver on those dates, they should not have made the promise.  It's getting a lot of publicity because it happened on Christmas, but it would be like me telling you I would have you...

    Halter Breaking Problem

We have started over completely, haven't had a halter on her for a couple days.  I feed her in a small pen and just brush her, pet her, set on a bucket in the pen with her etc.  It has helped immensely.  Will be putting a halter back on soon and trying to start over.  Dad means well, but it's...

    Halter Breaking Problem

I was thinking there used to be a thread titled "Breaking Calves Using the Red Method," or something to that effect, but can't find it now.  Any help there?

    Halter Breaking Problem

I have a heifer, weighing about 550, that we're having trouble with in the halter.  I had her where she would take a couple steps when you pulled on the halter, and then I would stop and pet her.  This was going pretty well until the day my dad came out to "help."  He decided the best bet was to...

    Accuracy of TH test

I don't necessarily think the test is wrong, just figured surely out of three one of them would be a carrier.  I'm glad they are not.

    Accuracy of TH test

We sent in three TH test and all came back free.  I am happy about this, however, wonder about any contamination giving a false test?  One of them was out of a DF Vegas cow, one was Milkman breeding, and one was out of Believe in Me.  Just wondering how they do the test and how accurate it is. ...

Damn Proud is also a TH Carrier, so beware of that when choosing him or Exile.

    Heifer with light bloat?

My biggest issue is showing her/trying to sell her, it's not real aesthetically appealing even the little bit that is there.

    Heifer with light bloat?

Thought a couple pictures might help.  Doesn't necessarily look like bloat, just her right side sticks out farther than the left.

    Heifer with light bloat?

I have a heifer whose left side is always slightly larger than her right.  She has never had loose stools, or any other symptoms of an upset stomach, other than this.  She is on free choice sorghumXsudan hay, and in with a group of 4 other calves.  They are receiving 40-45 pounds per day fed...

    Steer prices

Now I feel kinda goofy for commenting.  I just assumed since it was at the top it was a fairly recent post.  Guess I'll have to learn to pay more attention.

It would help if we knew where you were from, could help point you in the right direction.

    Drought picture

We plant some shorter day corns, most of what gets planted around here on dryland is 95-105 day corn, we also reduce our populations, most around 16,000 but some as low as 12,500.  We usually figure once you get below 20,000 it doesn't make much difference, but its hard to convince everyone of...

    Drought picture

We're in NW Kansas and started on dry corn last week.  Wet corn's been going for about 10 days.  Our average rainfall is only about 18", right about 9" for this year.  The biggest difference I see when I drive across the state/country is this:  in this part of the world, we plant for a short...

Mike Zamudio, AZ, Judge - What's his style, likes, dislikes?

I understand you can change an animal by clipping, that's why I said it.  With Zilmax off the market what would your next suggestion be?  I realize you can change one some, but completely trying to change your animal to fit what someone else's perception of what a judge likes seems really...

Mike Zamudio, AZ, Judge - What's his style, likes, dislikes?

None, which is why it always seems so ridiculous that people are always asking this.  Are you going to change what animals you bring to a show based on what the judge likes?  Other than clipping a little different are you going to physically change the animal you are showing that day?

    Daughters First Year Showing

Here are some pictures of my 5 year old daughter, Shaylee, showing her bucket calf.  The calf is one we bought to replace a calf that died at a couple hours old.  She went out every night and worked with him herself.  She did most of the clipping on him, and all the washing and blowing.  This...
