    Pork Radio Ads.

I agree, it sure doesn't send a positive message when the proteins can't get along.  I would look at it like your friends at the show, you are enemies in the ring, but outside that you work together and help each other out.  Our biggest threat right now is the anti-ag movement, not which protein...

    Differences at the county fair.....

I watched our county fair last night, and would agree to some extent with the extremes, however, would also have to argue that the judges are generally attracted to the cattle that are taken the best care of and at 12:00 on that day.  Our county fair has gone from one that was very competitive a...

    Feeding bulls

If this was the case a large number of commercial breeders in our area would be SOL.  We live in close proximity to an ethanol plant, and a large number of cow/calf producers utilize both wet and dry distillers in their winter ration for cows and bulls as it is a cheaper feed source.  None of...

    Ohio rain

Northwest Kansas about an hour south of the Nebraska border and 1 hour 45 minutes east of the Colorado border.  Little town called Quinter.

    Ohio rain

At least when you have excessive rains you are still able to raise something somewhere.  Our corn is toast, as well as some of the milo and the sorghum sudan feed.  If it doesn't rain within the next 3 or 4 days we can kiss the rest of the milo and feed goodbye.  Nobody buying pairs at the local...

    A couple pictures

Wish we were in your situation with the extra grass.  We are looking at having to start feeding cows, and praying that CRP gets released so we can graze it.

    cattle prod

I agree with BTDT.  I have seen more wrecks happen because of hot shots than number of times a hot shot is genuinely needed to help move cattle.  We have done the baiting through the chute before, usually only takes a 2-3 trips through, then work them easy from there on out and your good to go.

    Late May steer calf market

We had a heifer calve today, ended up losing her calf.  I'm wondering though, how much of a market there is for late May born steer calves?  It seems like they would be almost too small for a midwest fair, but too big for Ft. Worth, etc.  She was a first calf heifer, but is calving a little over...

    Cattle Marketing

What if instead of retaining 1 flush, you work with the seller to do 1/2 of 2 flushes.  I know quite a few who have done this succesfully, and been able to use semen to flush to that was either not available on the open market, or very expensive.  It can work to both parties interest, as long as...

    LiveAuctions

I'm saying some of the sellers must pay extra so the buyers don't have to pay.  I also refuse to pay, and would not have participated in these auctions if I had to pay.

    LiveAuctions

Some of the buyers must pay the fee for their sales, as I have bid on MCF's sale, and on Duis's dispersal without paying the fee.  I have been going to watch a couple sales where the fee was in place, however, and I chose not to bid/buy in those sales.  Experienced the same problems during...

FSF Assassin, FSF Starburst, or LCCC Churchill

Most of these cows will be 14-1600#, would guess them to be large frame 7's or possibly 8's.  I went with Churchill because I have liked the heifers I found when I searched for him on here, and these cows have worked well to Sonny sons in the past.

FSF Assassin, FSF Starburst, or LCCC Churchill

Have a group of shorthorns we are going to be breeding in the next month, curious what people's thoughts are on these three bulls?  Most of the cows are well made, feminine, could be moderated, and wouldn't hurt to make them a little flashier.  They are all sound and milk well.  Would be looking...

    MONSANTO

What the law is trying to say, is that if the USDA/FDA has found the product safe, it cannot be tied up in a court case to prevent farmers from growing a product.  It does not specifically protect Monsanto, but all biotech companies.  Just like you said in your post, you have to be careful who...

    MONSANTO

If the US and Canada are the only ones allowing it now are a large part of our production shipped overseas?  South America also grows a large amount of GMO crops for not "allowing it."  Europe has not outlawed GMO crops, much of their livestock is fed GMO grain, they have made the paperwork so...

    MONSANTO

Has anyone actually read the resolution?  This goes right along with the Marlin rifles talk higher up on the board.  I would be curious to see the studies cited that link GMO's to kidney/liver problems and would like to see a list of the countries who have banned GMO's.

    Cattle Apps (iphone, android)

After constantly trying to do the math, would be nice to have an app that you put in your target AI date, and what synch protocol you want to use (always 7 day CIDR for us), and it figures what times to put CIDR's in, pull CIDR's and give shots, etc.

We couldn't ever find what we wanted so my wife just made them.  She said it was extremely easy.

Opinions on herd numbers in the US

In our part of the world we are seeing a lot of "farms" that have never had cattle before, but it's because the cattlemen are sticking cattle in every nook and cranny they can just to try to hold on to as many as possible.  Most CRP fields, cornstalks, milo stalks, and whatever else we can get...
