How to feed a show heifer?

Can you elaborate on this? I take it the beet pulp and oats keep your calcium/phosphorus ratio in balance? What do you use for protein? What are the amounts you start with, what type of oats do you prefer, and what amounts do you like to work up to? What type of hay, if any, and how much, or do...

    Interesting reading on the elections

This reminded me of an email I had received (one of the few I have ever kept), had to share with those who haven't heard it before....    "I'm reminded of the time that Catherine  - one of Shannon's friends when she was little -  told me that she wanted to be President one day. Both of her...

What is your tatoo numbering system?

We number year and order of calving...this year's first would be 081, and on...082,083...  Only calve 6-8 head per year, so this has worked great.  Don't have to remember which letter is which year when figuring ages on heifers/cows that we've held.

    Clipping yearling bull???

First of all, I want to THANK everyone for all the info given...we left his head the way it was (he didn't have any hair on his poll anyways, so really didn't have to worry about cut/no cut there).  Did shave a bit off his sheath, seemed to help a bit.  Gave him ice water before the class (He...

    Clipping yearling bull???

I tried ice water to see if I could get him to drink it today...he wouldn't touch it until I took out the ice cubes that hadn't totally melted, but he drank almost the whole bucket.  I will give it a try at the show...I'm too chicken to do any pumping of water into him, my luck he'd drop over...

    Clipping yearling bull???

He is by a Focus/Stockman365 bull, out of a Taylor Maximum(GT Maximum-bred)/Triple Threat cow...The cow/calf photo attached is his dam with a full sister beside her.  I see what you mean by him being tight in the heart...what are the drawbacks of one being built this way?  I know there are...

    Clipping yearling bull???

Here's a couple pics a friend took yesterday.  He was standing lower than the person taking the photos, so his belly REALLY looks saggy.  Is there any trick to getting them to look "tighter" (he does early when it's cooler, but it seems when it starts getting hot, he really hangs that belly!). ...

    Clipping yearling bull???

"Letting it grow out over two weeks gives them a little more of a masculine look."  I wonder if this is why she wanted me to leave it...the fair is this next weekend.  He definitely looks more masculine with the hair, definitely more 'Marlboro-man', instead of 'Politician-man'. We clipped the...

    Clipping yearling bull???

I have a 12mo bull that is going to our little county fair.  I am getting different opinions on whether to clip his head or not.  I had clipped his head about a month ago, and it sure does look long to me. Of course, from a distance it looks fine.  Are the bulls clipped different than the...

    Mixing Kleen Sheen and vinegar

jasper...I believe you need the Infusium "Leave In Treatment"(I get the color treated hair one usually),...the creamy looking Infusium is a "Conditioner" that should be washed out.  I just got 15 coupons off ebay for $1.79 (incl shpg),  each for $3 off any size bottle Infusium...  I used this...
