    Neck Sweats

I use the purple ones with a leather one on the outside to keep them from ripping it off. When at shows i leave it on over night everynight, and the day before i use a horse ingredient thats called necksweat(i think). This potion makes a huge difference. But, be sure and put it on with rubber...

opinions on my county american steer

Good Job  (clapping), I really like this calf. He combines bone, with body, length of neck, and a great hip and hind leg for an american. I can't make a conclusion on skeletal width and muscle, as the only picture is from the profile. However, iv'e been to ur county fair several times, since i...

    Have I not done enough?

Dont throw him out, put him on a donkey if u have too, or if he's really bad send him to someone who breaks calves professionally. I always tie them up to the fence, (if they are real bad with the halter, i get a piece of rubber tube and make a ring and tie the halter to that, this gives a...

    Favorite Ag school

It depends on  what u want to study. Texas A&M is a pretty good all around ag school with a great veterinary program. Kansas State comes to mind and so does Oklahoma State. As far as community colleges go, Im a Blinn alum, so of course i gotta vote for them. But, Butler in Kansas, Conners in...

First snow! how will they react?

They are cattle! They live outside in the elements, snow, wind, rain, hail they are used to it, they have hair for a reason, it protects them. You shouldn't worry so much about them. A man running 1500 head in Colorado, like the Toole feedlot, doesnt have time for every calf to have a warm, dry...

    Insurance on cattle?

We used a horse insurance agency that charged like 10%. It covered, sickness, lightning strike, broken bones, etc. We only collected twice when we had an outbreak of BVR that killed some of our show calves two years in a row, then we moved barns and didnt have any problems after that.

    grower vs finisher

We've always fed in the opposite order. We would feed grower till about 750# then switch to finisher for the rest of the ride. Of course, in texas they reach that weight in August or so, and the finisher is fed throughout the winter. Finisher is a hotter ration designed to put on fat which can...
