    Cold weather gear

UNDER ARMOUR.  Their base layers are the absolute best.  You can wear the cold gear under your clothes and not have to be limited on movement or bulky like old school long john type stuff.  It really is worth the money.  I would suggest the 'Fitted' rather than the 'Compression' version.  Not so...

    Show Ring Bling????

Here is my two cents...I have two nephews. They dress appropriately in Cinch, Stetson or Wrangler jeans and a nice button up shirt-sleeves tbd by the weather. Real cowboy boots...NO caps...and a nice belt with rawhide. Showstick of their choice-camo. And on the heifer-the oldest likes the nice...

Putting pics on here with iPhone

I haven't figured out a way to post pics from iphone on here.  I have to go old school and email myself the pics from my iphone and then open my mail on the laptop and save the pics and do it that way.  I keep saying I would PAY for a steerplanet app...I don't personally use the mobile site-I...

Our first freeze branding experience... (3 weeks later pics added)

I totally agree:) My family raised Longhorns (no pointing and laughing) for years and you HAVE to brand them to register them and we used a hot brand-Dad wanted to do it the old school way.  My nephew now has a tiny herd of clubbish cows and is DYING to freezebrand. In fact, he just very...

    calf with ear problems

The nephews fat steer had one drooping ear (slightly) and we were told that he got some water in it and it could possibly always droop. And it did.  All summer. I hope someone gives you a magic solution! That is a rough one with both drooping. Good luck :)

    Nephews cheap fair steer...thoughts?

In case anyone was interested, Monte weighed in at the fair at 1265 and placed second in his class to a beautiful Monopoly Steer.  We were tickled with his performance-the judge said he wasn't 'stylish enough' is that code for...black? lol  But he got some real nice complements.  I sure wish I...

How is sale order determined at your county fair?

Thank you so much for all your replies.  I think I will try to print this thread to show to our fairboard-lol.  And I agree that I think the steers at the minimum should show for sale order.  I would like to know overall what position my nephews calf was in.  I know that this year, he was not. ...

How is sale order determined at your county fair?

I am curious to see the responses to this.  Our county fair was just held and I was shocked to see the sale order not determined by quality, rather by math.  So my question: Is this normal?  Does the judge place and determine the sale order in your county?  To be clear, of course the champions...

    Nephews first set fair pigs...thoughts?

Thanks for the nice advice.  They both did did gain the last week, around 25# each. We used not only the pay lean but a fat product called Frosting and it really worked well and they loved it.  Righty, nthe smaller one of the two, weighed in at 220 and won her class, the lightest class, but still...

Are there dairy steers at your county or state fair?

I live in Ohio and we have them in our local county fair.  I think they are kinda silly, as the beef judge always picks the crossbred calves that are thicker (even though they are supposed to be 100% dairy) so using the right kind gets you nowhere, but they are a shorter and somewhat cheaper...

    Nephews first set fair pigs...thoughts?

Here is Righty...she only weighs 197.  I couldn't get a great shot of either one of them coming towards me, but then again, I am not sure of what pose you need to evaluate a pig so hopefully you can tell something from these.  Thanks

    Showbarn Fans which one????

Our Schaefers were bought for use in our Greenhouses about 8 years ago.  They ran 7 months of the year constantly.  After we closed our greenhouses 2 years ago, we installed them in our barn for the nephews calves.  They have since then almost ran constantly.  They are fantasic (no pun...

    calf mana

We work our calves up to a full 2 cup measure.  It weighs about 1#.  You kinda have to go slow as it can cause diarhea if you jump straight to full dose.  good luck. for only a little more money we have switched to SureChamp.  I feel like it has improved our steers appeitite.
