    Exciting Times For Canadian Shorthorns

I couldn't agree more! There are a lot of people in our area that are really interested in the shorthorns, to use on Simmental base females. It will be really interesting to see how the sales pan out in the Shorthorn breed and in other breeds as well. It's a good time to be a Shorty breeder and...

    Picture of the day

Well out our way the wind is howling, the snow is blowing and it's just down right miserable outside... so I went through my pictures from this summer and here is one of them. One of our Limousin cows out on pasture in late summer. I could certainly be there right now soaking in the sun.  ;)

    Heifer won't accept calf

I remember my dad using this when I was younger and it worked absolute wonders! For whatever reason it was no longer available in Canada, but it certainly worked! When the Orphan No More wasn't available to us, we used a strong cologne, sprayed the mothers nose and then the calf and that...

    Webollabolla Theodore

I don't have any recent pictures of the heifer, however, I have attached a picture of her on pasture this past summer as a bred. Hopefully this helps you. :) HAHA! Yes, the endless wind fence of Canada! ;)

    Webollabolla Theodore

I think that Theodore is applicable today, but you have to breed him to the right type of cow to achieve this. I purchased semen last spring and spoke with Nic Jobs in regards to the types of cattle that "click" with theo. He said the good ones are from a moderate, volumous cow. If you breed him...

    Photo Manipulation

I think this is a very interesting thread. Photography is a true art, a good photographer can make a bad animal look okay and an okay animal look fantastic! Sometimes some photo's sure do appear to be over edited and such, something as simple as removing a halter and adjusting the...

Potential genetic defect in Shorthorn cattle

Being someone that is new getting into Shorthorns as far as numbers go, I would have to say up in Canada the breeders up here have been absolutely AMAZING at disclosing what animals are carriers of defects and it seems as though everyone is open and up front about it. In the long run I think it...

    Logo Design

Hi There, For sure! I could do one for you. I've got a few design projects on the go, so it may take me a bit to complete it, but I could definitely try my best to get you something.  :) Feel free to PM me or send me an email to [email protected] Thanks! Jenna

    Bulls

This is a really interesting thread, thanks for all the pictures everyone's posted as well as the graphs and articles. I think why a lot of people are reverting back to these older native genetics is because of what has happened within the shorthorn breed. If you look at those older bulls, they...

    New Shorthorn Bull

1 person. I believe they said they have had a total of 6 calves they have ever recorded pulling, if I am remembering correctly. 6/400*100= 1.5% assisted.

    New Shorthorn Bull

He does look a lot more like Chief phenotype wise for sure. I just want to make 100% sure as the hair was really inconclusive. He could have apparently been by bulls that were A) younger than him, B) down in the states with no potential of them ever making it this far north to breed one lone cow...

    New Shorthorn Bull

Thank you AJ! Idalee, he's actually a Canadian bull. If you click this link below that should take you to his pedigree. We are getting him blood DNA'd as his last hair DNA I wasn't fully convinced was correct. In my honest opinion, as well as the breeders, he is an Eionmor Ideal 69F son, not an...

    New Shorthorn Bull

Xbar - Now that you mention it, he is fairly similar. Same color patterning and pretty similar build from the pictures I've seen of 86G.

    New Shorthorn Bull

Thanks TrevorGreyCattleCo! I'm not 100% sure if semen will be available for the USA, as of yet I'm only doing a collection for Canada, but if enough interest is there we could definitely look into it for you. Knabe, you bet. That was the plan as he is getting older. Thanks for the suggestion...

    New Shorthorn Bull

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to show you all our new (old haha) gem we found. Eionmor Ideal 9N. We are hoping to get a few years out of him tops, if he tests well in the spring as well as draw some semen on him this fall. What are your thoughts on him? This picture was taken about a week ago. Thanks!

    New Websites

And now the Shorthorn side of the operation is up and running.  (clapping) Definitely let me know if you see anything that doesn't look right or if you're having a hard time reading things. Thanks! :) www.sjshorthorn.com

    Sire to daughter line breeding

My experience with Sire/Daughter matings isn't a very good one... not as far as performance anyway. I really noticed the bone in the cattle went down when that happened. The produced calf looked just fine... not lacking, but it was probably a good 100lbs lighter at weaning than that cow had ever...

    New Websites

We got our new website up and running. It's the first website I've designed, but we really like the look of it. :) Now to start on the Shorthorn website.  <beer> http://www.lingleylimousin.com/
