    Shorthorn

The original question was aimed at fulfilling the needs of a 100 cow operation.  Not sure the 5-10 cow guy is as concerned w selling on the grid (much less making a profit selling by the pound). Xbar raises a good question - one that exposes a weakness in the US shorthorns; an answer to this...

    RPS Grand Slam?

Very popular towards what was probably the tail end of the frame score era - did very well in the showring and had tons of performance..sire was TNT Fastrack (10 frame, won Denver twice I believe and was sired by JIT's bull Duke of Dublin) out of a Marc 1V cow that went back to Hoyt breeding. ...

    Shorthorn Bulls of the Past

GS Touche hasn't been mentioned.  He's listed as double clean on ASA.  Born in 1991, and could sire competitive steers today. Words 4W Casper is listed as double clean and has what could be called a "clubby" pedigree.  Born in 1995. Windridge Leggs 200 ET - listed as double clean - born 2006.  ...

    Question about Sull Achiever calves

If you're referring to the two time denver champ Farah "aka The Female of the Nineties" as the enviable one, keep in mind she had a 110lb BW, 8+ frame, and her sire and grand sire had 9+ frame scores.  I imagine calving might be an issue in a group of cows that were the exact same genetically.

    Durhams for Denver

I hope the sale goes really well.  These sales have def helped promote the breed here in the US.  There are next too no shorthorn breeders (in the US) willing to put up the capital required to pull Off a venture of this size and scale.  Lots 27 and 31 would be my pick (assuming they had a...

    NAME THE BULL!

I'm a shorthorn nerd.  It was more process of elimination.  I thought he was one of the old school Canadian bulls but when it wasn't who i originally thought i looked at Okotoks past herd sires on his website and saw he had a solid red bull named GAFA captain mcbest (he looked right and the name...

    NAME THE BULL!

Thanks for posting this pic!  I really like this type of Shorthorn.  I imagine he had to be easier calving and easier doing than the ayatollah's, Clark's, maine's, and chi's that were about to take over as the popular Shorthorn genetics....but he probably couldn't hold a candle to them in the...

    NAME THE BULL!

This is tough...it was too soon for the ayatollahs (and he doesn't look it)... he doesnt look irish and appears to be smooth polled...he may be from the aussie lines, but he seems to have a similar look to the Four Point Major bull...I really dont have a clue but I'm going to guess Winalot Captain
