    Possible donor cow

I think the third picture of the bull tells the story. The grass in Australia is very similar to type and growth rates that we experience on the west coast.  If you look the grass is turning color so, to me this indicates the end of there grass season at which point the cattle should be at...

    Possible donor cow

Belmore roger 37 is his name. Looks like a useful bull.

    Possible donor cow

Shortybreeder,  I have some hesitation with the red rewards so, goldenrod would be a good possibility.  Two other bulls may be kaper 4508 and muridale robert ( if he's been collected?).

    Possible donor cow

Kane captain would be great his sire was just picked up by select sires and is great for low bw and high milk/ maternal. On the bottom side, red reward out of older aegeter breeding. function is bred in! I think I will be using the bull come next fall on a few cows.

    New Buster 6T calf

I would agree with Mark and would say down here he is a 90 95 lb Calf. That is near the upper limit for keeping a Calf a bull in my opinion.  I would watch him grow I have a hard time apraising buster calves.  They always look better closer to weaning than at 2-3 months of age (when I normally...

    How much is too much?

Well I think you are right on the amount you need to be. 21# of grain and a flake or 10# of hay at night would be 31 # of total feed.  At 1250 and 2.5% that should = 31.5# of feed and that is exactly what you are feeding. The closer they get to the finish the harder they are to manage.

    Hill Haven Fire Storm 28C

Great looking bull with great cow power top and bottom!!!  <cowboy> did you use him as a yearling at all or will his first come next year?  He could work well on some of the smaller made JPJ type cattle.

    Philosophies of Breeding

I like to follow the k.i.s.s ( keep it simple stupid) method of breeding Breed the good ones to the good ones and make more good ones.  The issue lies in the fact that most don't know what a good one is. It takes years to understand what works in your environment if this information was not...

    CFS/Lakeside Rooster

E3 jsf navigator may be good if just have no experience with him. I was not impressed with my venture cattle in terms of production.  They looked good themselves but did not produce like I would have thought they should.

    CFS/Lakeside Rooster

Shortybreeder,  I have three Bulls I would suggest.  Byland steadfast,  saskvalley imperative,  rb eagle 148th.  I would also ask Frank K. If he still has semen on bf outer limits 8170 he may also work.

    CFS/Lakeside Rooster

Shortybreeder I too tried locating a digital picture of Firecracker and had no luck.  I had also forgot that he was 102 #bw he was great at adding muscle and increasing yield and had great maternal in the background. I used a son of his byland steadfast.  He was a maternal half sib to gold...

    CFS/Lakeside Rooster

When you say carcass are wanting to add marbling or meat yield.  They are antagonistic traits for the most part and we have limited data on carcass traits in the breed.  One of the more documented Bulls for increasing marveling is jsf gauge.  To increase yield stone Springs fire cracker.

    Optimal recip research

From what I can remember,  we would put a new cidr in same day and pull it a few days later.  I will have to make some calls to get the exact protocol since this was 15 years ago.

    JPJ Daughters

JTM I think if you go back and look at your comments it appears that you think JPJ cattle have no place and are not low bw.  I believe you whole heartedly when you say these genetics did not work for you in your program/environment.  However, I have had the complete opposite where he has done...

    Optimal recip research

It seems to work well! Placing the cidr back in after putting the embryo in it helps keep those that stuck bred and allows you a second chance at the ones that did not take the first time.  Express ranch has used this protocol in the past.  They average 55% conception on the first round and 50%...

    JPJ Daughters

My oldest JPJ cows are now 11 I have bred them many ways and despite high bw epd's on some of the sires used there has been no calving issues.  I would look at the progeny from the sires you are considering to help make final decisions.  I have used many JPJ sons and grand sons back on the...

New shorthorn bulls that aren't syndicated

Here is a yearling Bull that I think will work well for most.  He is sired by a jazz great-grandson and out of a jazz great-granddaughter x with ramrod.  4 generations of calving ease on top blended well with growth.  Look up hid info B/F WINTER SOLDIER 5060 .  I may collect him in February.

    Ready 4 The Ride

I have one out of a JPJ cow. Calf was 102 lbs shorthorn marked thick, long, born unassisted he's only two days old but toes out a little on the front.  Otherwise he's pretty good plan on using the bull again this fall.
