    Shorthorn weaning weights.

I have a JG red cloud daughter out of RB ruby 177th sold because of poor weaning weights.  Had a 7026 daughter loved the look and udder on this cow again, poor weaning weights and was sold.  Tried captain obvious great bw poor weaning weights.  I am convinced it is from the red cloud line.  I...

    New Herdsire

I think this bull will be better than his sire. He appears to have more muscle.  I really like the udders on those daughters of his.  If you get him collected this fall let me know I think I will be breeding a few cows to him.

    Breeding Questions

If she can't settle by AI with multiple attempts then she would not be a candidate for embryo transfer.  I would find a way to turn her out with a bull.  If she doesn't take this round I would contact the breeder for suggestions and then have her checked by a vet.

    Jakes Proud Jazz Daughters

It really depends on your goals with the resulting progeny? I have personally lined up JPJ up to 4 times with no problems.  I prefer a cross with two shots of JPJ. I like some of his sons progeny more than his own.  If you just want a functional low maintenance replacement than use a Canadian...

    Oakview General 507Z

I figured there would be some background to the calving score.  I think this bull could work well on some smaller made, square headed, jazz or captin obvious type cattle.  Good bull thank for sharing.

    Oakview General 507Z

I think there are a lot of good qualities to this bull, length of side, nice muscle pattern, stout boned, good foot, and appears to be sound.  I would be concerned about the sheath but, that is a personal preference.  As for calving ease he is listed on the asa site as 86lbs and a calving ease...

    Commercial Shorthorn Bull

JTM thanks for the clarification on the Rea I did not look at the 1.2 per 100 but actual size at yearling wich at first glance is small but when you take into account feed and Rea per 100 he is acceptable.  I think this post is very useful. It shows that different management practices can result...

    Picture of a few calves

I like the cows and calves! More importantly, I like and respect the fact that JTM has a plan and is seeing it through.  Good luck and keep breeding cattle that work for you!

    Patent Son

I bought a patent son in 2014.  Calves were larger than expected at birth. 92 lb average but growth was great. My only real complaint was his attitude.  The patent x 464 cross works great.  I kept a son of my bull out of a bonanzaxjazz first calf heifer he had an actual ww of 718.

    Commercial Shorthorn Bull

JTM in all transparency you should include bw epds and disclose the accuracy on the carcass epds.  The rea on renegade is what you would expect from a calving ease heifer bull.  Renegade does not have the necessary growth nor the muscle evidenced by the low actual rea listed.  I do agree that...

    Show cattle health?

Could the product you are questioning be like a beta blocker and actually help the animals deposit less plaque and lower cholesterol?  Grain fed diets are a necessary evil of the industry so, maybe this product helps increase the productive life of these animals?

    Show cattle health?

That is an interesting question. I am not sure if it has been studied at all.

My bull is a mess! Suggestions needed!

Deworm or delouse him and thenot put bacon grease or petroleum jelly on the rub spots to get the hide softend-up.  He has plenty of Time to grow hair back.  Besides good cattle don't need much hair and masculine bulls should be slick by summer.

    Shorthorn Blood Percentages Registration?

I have not investigated this much but, would assume the registry has a macro built in that only designates non-AR only after it reaches 15/16 and not 29/32.  Also is the animal in question black or blue because any black color will carry an AR regardless of percentage. I think this is a good...

Flushing a cow what kind of bull to use on her??

Is that her calf? How was she bred this time and are you pleased? Are you looking for any specific color patterns?  I would suggest mating her clubby and getting a live calf before blindly flushing.  She is a good looking cow and a proven mating will sell and resell more than a theoretical...

JSF The One and BFS Red Reality Opinions/Calves

I have seen The One, he was small and not much to look at since he was going from Bennett's to Dilabo's and just came off the cows.  However, after seeing calves by him from both herds I think he breeds good and both herd have some stout moderate females by him.

    Thoughts on cf primo

What are your goals or expectations with this mating?  I think he is a trait leader for growth and milk?  However, I agree with mark his birth weights will be eratic with most likely large calves.  Depending on your goals their could be more useful and reliable genetics out there.
