Ds-what percentages when breeding 2 carriers?

As long as you don't have PHA in the pedigree the DS is not much of an issue.  I have bred up to five times with jazz with no issue however,  I have had two calves that had expressed the turned in pasterns.  Both straighten out and weaned off at near 700 lbs with no signs by weaning.  I don't...

Having problems with flushing a cow and need advice.

There are a lot of variables when flushing. The cow begins to start follicular recruitment 60 prior to ovulation so days post partum and nutrition play a huge role. When had the cow last calved? Was she on a increasing plane of nutrition and good mineral plan?  Was the semen checked? Who did the...

    11 out of 13

Well Gary, you've got time I don't start breeding again until December.  I Like the conversation in this post as well.  I think I agree that we regard older genetics as the answer to all our current frustrations. However,  we may make more progress with sons crossed with modern genetics aso...

I thought it might be Frontline. Deeds Toca producer is what you get with predictive text and not re-reading before you post.  It should have said breeders to, I have no clue how it produced what it did.  Do you have semen available on frontline?

Good looking bull!  That is a good example of why I advocate for deeds Toca producers to use their own genetics when possible.

    Shorthorn dispersal

I am good with your stance now that you have explained it.  It just didn't come across that way when I read it the first time.

    Shorthorn dispersal

The way I took AJ's comment coupled with your was that they had no vision or ability to create their own product.  I believe they were on business long before Sullivan got into the shorts.  But, your comment about the syndicated bulls was where I felt like you were complaining.  Regardless of...

What do you think of the website I made?

Great job, I am considering doing the same.

Mark, complaining is what kids do!  Read Grant's post I believe he is spot on.  I will miss John also.

ASA WEBSITE-CAN IT GET ANY WORSE?

Mark, I agree with some of your frustration, however your post title is about the ASA not the country.  The magazine is a separate private business from the ASA (except that we are now forced to pay a higher membership fee and get the magazine included).  I think the ASA is making great strides...

    Two year old heifer

Nice looking pair. I think she will make a fine female.  I like the udder suspension and shape, teats look once too!

Wart inside the ear on a heifer

I have never fed the warts to my cattle but, rather than pulling it off, place her in a chute/squeeze , restrain the head and cut the wart out with scissors.  Put iodine over the wound. It will bleed bad so if Flys are present use fly spray as well.  This likely came from contaminated tattooing...

Building shorthorns from commerical black cows

I think breeding up works well.  If you want instant change the sell your cows and buy new ones. I would keep what you have and breed up especially if you like your cows.

    Shorthorn breeding decision

Marc T has some good suggestions I think you would like and have good luck with saskvalley imperative 33x.  Wiseguy is on here and has semen on him for $25.

    Shorthorn sires

Librarian I like your thinking.  It seems that getting large group of theservice great females is difficult as most breeders are small and don't want to give up what they have worked so hard to create.  I think R.N. Reed has something on his website that says start with something close to your...
