From my experience he is really hit and miss. I have had best results with ohlde bred smaller framed type.  His Calves are moderate for the most part but will throw some over 100 every now and then.  Sullivans have had luck breeding him to a TC bred cow you can look her up on their website. ...

First Calf Shorthorn Heifer bull options

A bull that I have used with good results but, always get beat-up on here for mentioning is sonny California.  He had an actual 66 lbs birth weight and he breeds small calves despite what his pedigree indicates.  They will be a bit more flashy than most of the others.  However if you want sure...

    Canadian cattle

While I agree JTM that a more consistent product is what we should  produce and having the basics in place would resolve some issues I don't think we should narrow our gene pool so much that cattle look identical everywhere.  I just think that breeders should make the best most consistent...

    A few bull pics

JIT-I had a bull very similar in color to your bull. Calf was out of a JPJ X Steadfast cow and sired by Major Leroy. cow was red with a little white on the belly. the calf is listed as 97% on the ASA site. I guess you just never know what will pop up.

    A few bull pics

Bulls look good Grant. The two out of the Leroy dams seem the have his muscle expression.  I too am a fan of the buster son. He will sell well.

    Virtual mates

Not all Canadian cattle are registered with the ASA so you might not get epds.  Go to the search tool under registration enter the name, tattoo, or register number to get info on the animal.  As for the inbreeding coefficient, it is a number that represents the relatedness of animals in a given...

How low is too low when selecting low birth weight bulls? from Cattle Business

It would be nice if we could corilate objective measurements on adult cattle to calving ease.  I think Gerald Fry has a good start with linear measuring.  I like that seeds tick producers are realizing that moderation is better than extremes.  Oneven thing I never see people talk about is how we...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

I like using my yearling bulls on my yearling heifers. I get to see if I am on the right path one generation sooner.  It also has made me focus on breeding in calving ease.

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

Jason, since you say you have recently switched to selling through a sale barn, try calling the sale ban manager a month prior to when you are going to bring calves in so, they have time to line up buyers to be in the seats when your calves come in.  I learned that if I put in the effort on the...

    Shorthorn Advise

Coalpit  creek leader 6, muridale buster 2nd, kaper 4508,  the first two should be available through cattle visions the kaper bull you would get through the owners(kaper cattle).

    Shorthorn on line registry system

It takes some time to setup but, once you work through it the program makes sense.  Spencer unless you paid to be a member or the breeder you purchased the steers from paid for you to be a member then you would need to call the ASA office to become a member and at that time they will set you up...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

While I agree with everything you said I was a little disappointed with the fact that after the speakers we did not get time to discuss or set objectives for the breed for the next 1,5,10 years (which we would re-visit at these conferences as needed).  I think we were given great information and...
