    flushing

Flushing heifers can be tough on their reproduction tract.  The cow can most definitely be flushed if she is cycling.  Flushing in my opinion should be done to proven matings  on cows that have a proven track record.  Blindly flushing to some random mating will likely be costly and have a low...

What sire to use for a shorthorn plus?

I believe they requested longer necked and free moving. So capiche  is out way to short coupled.  If going for more shorthand try looking into kolt Kane nitro, a&t renegade, deertrail buckshot, or sonny California.  If going clubby I-80 or for color uncle si.

The Cal-Poly cows were very uniform.  They still had a few left when I was there in 2004.  The university partnered with Lucy clover ranch (Don Cardy) on a bull from Frost Acres that the GA prefix.  Those were great cows and crossed well with dividend.  The 20k female was miss d Cumberland great...

Stabilized Rice Bran & Power fuel

If I am doing the math right you want the steer to gain 200 lbs in the next 90 days + or-.  You are currently feeding 32 lbs of feed a day and at that rate with a 8:1 conversion I would expect about 4lbs of daily gain, putting you at 360 lbs total by fair.  Chechnya what you have been feeding...

    old shorthorn semen

Coyote, does 13z work well on the bonanza females?  I have a few and am going to turn out a bonanza  X JPJ bull with heifer this fall and I am already trying to plan for future matings.

    NBS Low Rider

I have not used the bull myself but, have used a red rider son and birth weights were very eradic.  The females that I retained were great producers.  They do seem the be more likely to be born with the pasturns  bowed forward but, straighten out later.  My red rider son never produced Amy bull...

JDMC ROYAL COMMANDO 3Y Discussing pedigrees

The accuracy of our numbers is getting better as most of us are trying to submit more data.  If we would have embraced ultrasound sooner we could be further along with carcass traits.  I do think some of these older genetics have some usefulness.  I am also amazed at the number of breeders on...

JDMC ROYAL COMMANDO 3Y Discussing pedigrees

RS and RR come from the same herd all Sneed cattle not sure what the reason for the different prefix.  The same with the dam she is ML which is from loving's breeding. I think many families do this to separate the kids cattle then seem to return them to the main prefix later.  The COI on this...

    Reoccuring Hoof Rot

Give them a full dose of multimin  90.  Foot rot is caused by low levels of trace minerals allowing get the hoofs to be susceptible to problems.  The minerals you listed may not be in balance with your environment thus causing deficiencies.  If you have lots of iron in you water it will bind to...

(More) Shorthorn Cattle for you all to look at.

Mark, I agree more people should have used the super duty bull he was great.  I am in agreement also,  on the fact that there aren't any known or well promoted genetics that go back to the older lines(except the Canadian cattle).  I guess I have a new task of making some relevant but, unknown...

    Testicle degeneration

I put a few eggs in the neighbor's cows and got a bull calf.  Early on he looked great when they brought him to me at weaning 9 months old, he looked fine by yearling one testicle was half the size of the other so, I shipped him.  I never thought much about it until now.  There must be something...

    Improving a herd

Don't  waste your time or money with wild stock.  Save a little  more and spend the money on quality cattle.  If you already bought the cows buy a good her ford bull and docile them down.

(More) Shorthorn Cattle for you all to look at.

Mark, you must really like Maine influenced cattle.  The 8108 bull is impressive to look at but, his sire is a purebred Maine and he is an AR on his pedigree .  Sure he is no different than red reward and the likes but, I prefer some of their older breeding.  The Martin's  are great people. ...

    ET Weston Ablo daughter

Dan, those are some nice looking heifers!  Gary, I agree about the ASA website very hard to navigate and not nearly as informative as I think it should be.  The pedigree with missing sires is a glitch that the staff are aware of and are working on.  I was have the same issue's.
