Pros and cons of using dairy cows to use for carrying embyos

I was wondering how many people do this and what the pros and cons are? I know there are quite a few people who use dairy cattle to put embryos in to carry the calf cause of their milking abilities. I was thinking of maybe doing this in the future and wanted to get people's input. Would it cost...

    1st calf of the year!!

I agree with what you are saying here! Not only did I have the one to milk out but I also had another one that filled up but not that much milk! I forgot about her! Her calves were nice but in terms of her bringing them on weren't that great. Needless to say she didn't stay around plus she was...

    1st calf of the year!!

Nice looking healthy calf! Wow with an udder like that she'll grow great! Did you have to milk the mother out before she calved? I had one like that and had to milk her out a good 2-3 weeks before the calf dropped.

    Aborted fetus pics

Interesting but at the sametime it really sucks! Glad it wasn't a disease that made her abort. At least you don't have to worry about your other cattle! Hopefully the rest will be healthy calves for you!

    Connealy Thunder

I'm glad to hear that she didn't have a contagious disease!! That could have ended up badly for you! 6-7 months that really sucks! Are you going to keep her or ship her off to the stock yard? Oh guess what, ground is frozen and a dusting of snow! YAY LOL No mud for a little bit lol.

    Connealy Thunder

She's growing good.  Her dam and granddam don't have the style for show calves, but they're real beef animals.  Losing the other calf sucked, but I've got some cool pics of the aborted calf.  Maybe I'll post them on here.  The sun and wind the last couple of days has done alot to dry up our...
