Been following your post and from another MOM, is the calf worth if?  You are having your share of difficulties as an adult.  That calf is going to continue to grow and get stronger.  Ask yourself if you want your girl on that lead when he is 1000+ pounds?  Will she be able to control it not...

Is showing Beef Cattle really competative everywhere?

So sorry you had this experience.  The leader sounds like a pickle!  There has to be some nice people that will give you a hand.  We were lucky to have a family member to help us. We have had some success and watch some of the others trying so hard to win using less than ethical means and still...

Points for Persuasive Essay- Why to Eat Beef

I would go at the essay from the "Green" point of view.  Everything is being marketed today as sustainable.  Show all the ways that calf is used.  There isn't much waste to a calf and people are all about sustainable resouces that stimulate the economy.  From his hooves/bones-gelatin...

People's perceptions of organic meats, ranching .....etc.

Just smile next time and instead of trying to sway her to your side, ask where she can provide the information she is giving you as you would very much like to research her ponit of view.  They usually stammer and say they don't know.  Have done this with PETA people and they scoot away pretty...

Has anyone heard of steers having growing pains?? UPDATED: Epiphysitis

First line of treatment on out colts is to decrease the calories they are taking in until the swelling goes down.  No supplement will make the epiphysitis go away.  Has to run it's course a bit.  Bute can be used for the swelling also but give this time to get the growth plate area back down to...

Has anyone heard of steers having growing pains?? UPDATED: Epiphysitis

Has anyone heard of steers having growing pains?? UPDATED: Epiphysitis

Did he say it was Osterchondosis or OCD?  This is a common condition in young horses  from being fed diets high in calcium and phosphorus.  Alfalfa hay is often the culprit for us.  I have seen it enough to wonder if cattle could develope the same issues when we are trying to feed them a bit...

Showing cattle at a young age

If you leave this up the families to decide be prepared for at least 1 ir 2 children to bring unruley steers to fair to be shown by a young child.  First year members(age 8-9) can bring steers to our county fair.  It is so hard to watch when the steer drags the child around the arena and the Dad...

    do supplaments really work

They do work when done properly.  Some better than others but what people don't realize is they are not a wuick fix.  Feed throughs take 4-6 WEEKS before you can really tell the difference.  Many naysayers feed them about a week expecting results and when they don't see it they deem them a...

    turning calves into show winners?

A clean, well fed broke calf will always make a good impression.  Can you help keep the shed clean?  Bathe as much as you can as weather permits.  Good clean hair=elbow grease.  No shortcuts there.  The more you work with them the better.  You will be able to monitor foot health if it is muddy...

Pour On Wormer that will not harm hair growth

We jsut wormed our calves with Ivomec.  It is the bit cheaper one we got at TSC.  Had no hair loss or skin trouble with any of them.  It has been 3 weeks since they were wormed and only saw a greasy line where we poured it on.
