    politness-or need to be

Your first sentence is your most telling.  That you haven't spoken to this person in a while.  There probably is a reason.   As I get older, I find myself more tolerant of other people views.  I can have respect for their's but they must respect mine as well. Some of the most interesting...

    cloning cows

Having seen a lot of cloning in the horse world, it is interesting to see the clones go to market.  Not all are valued the same which is surprising since the DNA makeup is the same.  Watched 4 clones sell this last Dec In Ft Worth of Smart Little Lena-one of the most influencial sires in the cow...

    Slick Shearing show cattle

we are in northern indiana and slick shear about first part of april to show in July.  I like it and the hair does seem to work nicely.  We wash well before we shear as it saves on the blades and just goes quicker

#1 issue in animal production right now?

With the global markets, I want to know where my food comes from.  I believe that issue directly relates to growing environment, processing and selling.  I feel better when I see US on the products I buy and try my best to support our country.

2012 1099 Laws and how it relates to the $ your kid earns from livestock sale

With the company that has done our taxes for years, we pay for the service that should we be audited, they will go in on our behalf and take care of it.  It is a small fee but worth the piece of mind.  So they need to handle all aspects of our taxes including the 1099 so as they know they are...

2012 1099 Laws and how it relates to the $ your kid earns from livestock sale

Problem being when you purchase show animals and pay a premium for them knowing that the check at the end will cover the feed and that is about it, how long will the kids get to turn the expenses for the project only to show a loss every year?  They got a 1099 and they are legally able to turn...

Heifer goes off feed whenever we travel

Feel your pain.  Our "Diva" would not eat at shows.  She liked the custom horse feed we had done so we took a bag of that buuuttt she didn't like it mixed into the cattle feed, she like it sprinkled on top like frosting.  She would eat the frosting them a bit of show feed then turn her head as...

    James H Leachman Please read

There are three sides the the story.  His, His and the truth which we may never know.  What we all do know is animals are neglected and allowing a herd to get the the numbers where you don't know where they all are or who is the sire of the foals is mismanagement by the owner.  Period.  The...

2012 1099 Laws and how it relates to the $ your kid earns from livestock sale

Here is the link to the IRS that does tell us we can deduct hobby expenses but the key words here are "reasonable" and "closely related to".  Our horse association sends us a 1099 for childs earnings.  We then deduct what it took him to earn money at that specific show.  We are reasonable and...

Was just talking to our accountant.  Not sure if you all know about the new 1099 Laws starting in 2012 that pertains to who gets a 1099 Basically starting 2012, if you pay out over 600.00 to anyone or any corporation for a business good or expense you will need to issue a 1099 to that person or...
